You can get first home buyers allowance to cover a bit of it

$40K How expensive a house are you looking at? I'm sure our stamp duty was just about covered by the first home owners grant.

$14k IIRC.

I got mine when it was only $7k, but that was 7 years ago.

Thought it was $7k for the grant? Or is it $7k for each person?

yes you can get the grant if you have owned property abroad, as long as either yourself or your partner is an Australian citizen or has PR, and it is 7 grand.

Actually the First Home Owners Grant ($7K) and the First Home Plus Scheme (stamp duty concessions up to a maximum of $600K) are separate schemes. For more info have a read here:

You won't get the first home owners rebates if you are on 457s.

Which state is this? In QLD, it would be around $23K.

The FHOG is $7K but you would not be entitled to it as you are not a PR.

Our E.A (our home is on the market) was telling us about a little known fact today. Those who qualify for the $7,000 grant can also get about $2,000 from REIWA ...not sure about the other states though as I got side-tracked and forgot to ask him. It's certainly worth inquiring about

Not in VIC. To make up for this we still pay higher stamp duty than other states on property purchase........
