Oceans Reef is somewhere we are thinking of living when we finally get to Oz, we are planning a rekkie pretty soon. Is it a nice as the name suggests?

I'm soooo pleased to hear you did!! We keep meaning to do a springflower outing, but have been busy with plans for a holiday to UK :scared:

I did meet you and the kids...wasn't it at Claire's boys party up at Joondalup? I can't say I blame you for not posting their pics...don't think I would either!

love sophia xx

It's great. I love it but it is rather far out from the city.

How far do you mean? Although this is not a problem ( i dont think) as i live pretty near to a city and want to get away from it all. I intend to work at Perth Royal which i am told is not too far away from Oceans Reef.

Royal Perth is a quite a way from Ocean Reef, I'd say about 20 Kilometers. I guess if your shift doesn't coincide with the rush hour you could be there in 25 minutes to half an hour. With the rush hour, more like 30 - 45 minutes.

You could always work at Joondalup hospital, which is much closer (but I've heard bad reports about working there, and being treated there too)

I love your pictures Renth!

Nows the time of year to appreciate wildflowers in WA, with over 10 thousand species, just in that little corner of Aus.

We've had a shite summer here in the UK, I'm jealous!

I'm heading up to Kalbarri in a few days time, I can't wait. I'll be taking the scenic coastal route for the first time this time.

From

http://www.calm.wa.gov.au/national_p.../kalbarri.html

Wildflower wonderland

Kalbarri is also famous for its wildflowers, most of which bloom from late July through spring and into early summer. The species-rich heathlands provide a spectacular floral display. There are vivid gold and orange banksias, grevilleas in white, yellow and red, green and red kangaroo paws, featherflowers in many coloured shades, smokebushes, starflowers and many more.

Twenty-one plant species are found only here, mainly in the coastal cliff tops and gorge country. One of the best known is the Kalbarri catspaw, a small yellow or red plant that is usually seen on recently burnt country from August to September. It is confined to the Kalbarri area. There are also several orchids that can only be seen in and near the park, including the Kalbarri spider orchid and the Murchison hammer orchid.

Wow! I'm trying not to drool all over my keyboard reading this! It's wild spectacles like that that motivate me to go to Aus all the more!

Kalbarri and the other coastal parks thereabouts also have some very localised Reptiles and Frogs, and other stuff no doubt...

I put your link in my favourites and I'll have a perusal tomorrow, looks fascinating, thanks for that.

Oh that's no good, it takes me approx 3 minutes to get to work so there is no way i am going to start travelling that far. However, i don't like the idea of working in a 'bad' hospital either.
Oh well perhaps a change of career is on the cards. :scared:

Hi Renth

I was in Kalbarri for a week in about june 99 when i was driving down the west coast from darwin. Kalbarri is truley lovely but then again after driving down the west coast I dunno why people seem to prefer the east but the west wouldn't be the same with loads of concrete. Have a great time there.

Talking Re: Spring in WA

Just had to say that my baby was in Joondalup hospital when we were on hols at Christmas - he was only 5 months old and had pneumonia, had to go in an oxygen box for 2 days and we were in there for a week, only let us out 3 days before Christmas. The nurses were absolutely fab and I was so glad we were there and not in Wexham Park (hospital in UK near where we live). Most of the nurses were English or from South Africa and they were all lovely.
