This website has pdf files to click on for various emergency treatments, including spider bites: http://www.stjohn.org.au/emergency.htm

My girls are both St John Cadets, so I'm hoping they'll be around if ever anything happens. I got bitten by a spider the first week after we emigrated but luckily had no more than swelling to my hand - showed it to the local pharmacist and he gave me some cream and advice.

I'm glad I didn't step on this Mouse Spider, found in our garden last year. Now that would have been very worrying!

Ha ha ha - yes i think i'd rather torture myself and look then wonder what was on it!!

Ha ha - read the birds and tattoos thread - couldn't be arsed to argue with anyone about it!! I know how much i love mine and how feminine they are so didn't feel the need to try to convince anyone else of that!! ha!
And my OH finds them very sexy :p - and he's the only one who's opinion i care about anyway!! So i resisted the temptation to rant at anyone on there!!!

And yep - the mouse spider wasn't quite as cute as it sounded was it?!!
I'm still trying ot come down off the ceiling about the alien thing - nothing that ugly should be allowed to be alive!!!!!

Wednesday nights at 6pm, at the ambulance station on Pinjarra Rd (opposite the driving licence place). Will PM you with the leader's name and number. Both Junior cadets (age 8-11) and Senior cadets (age 12-18) attend together. Your children can go for 4 trial sessions to see if they like it, then they are required to obtain a uniform and pay the fees, which are minimal. The uniform is paid for by the government. Once they gain their first qualifications, they can start going "on duty" at events but they don't get to treat people until they reach a certain level. My daughter just won a medal in the annual first aid competition and will be entered in the state competition, she just keeps so calm in a crisis and puts into practise what she's learnt. She already has several life-saving certificates and is doing the next course in the pool during the summer. So if I'm bitten by a spider or snake or get stung by a jellyfish or carried out on a rip tide........ yeah forget soccer or basketball training, get your kids to do something useful and learn first aid! :)

Re: Spiders

snakes, spiders and jellyfish are not the biggest danger facing kids in OZ, they are only a minor hazard compared to the dangers of drowning or car accidents, more kids are killed and injured by dog attacks in OZ then snakes or spiders.

We spotted this guy outside munching a bug (attached) - and we've had a redback in our little girls playroom :scared:
But for the most part the fly screens seem to keep them outside and thankfully they keep their distance!

Right on both counts - although I hadn't identified it until you pointed it out and I did a google search :)

Just keep in mind 99% of the conclusions you come to will be thrown out the window when you actually arrive :D
