Default Speeding fine

When we were in the UK we unfortunately fell foul of the new Smart Motorway, my husband was slowing down but as everybody was getting flashed we weren't sure if we had been caught. The first we heard anything is when the hire-car company took an extra amount out about 2 weeks later, I got in touch to find out what it was, apparently it was a charge for telling the local authority our address as we had been caught speeding. The car-hire company informed the relevant authority mid May and we've been waiting for the fine to appear in our post box, given we are now into August does anybody know how long it takes. We go to the UK every couple of years and don't want to arrive there to find out we've been taken to court etc and we owe a lot of money.

I'd be contacting whoever issues the speeding fine and asking them.

I don't know who issues them, but I will have a look and see if I can find out

The car hire company would presumably know, since they were liaising with whoever issues the fine.

I will contact them again, all it said on the invoice was where it happened and the penalty notice, it was only because of this extra charge we knew that we'd been caught speeding, the flashes were going off on every lane so we weren't sure if we had, as my husband was slowing down at the time...…… not quick enough it seems

Hope you can sort it out.

We've just got back to Oz after 3 years in the UK. We've hired a car until we buy one, and my husband was tootling along at 30kph today. When I commented that he was slower than a wet week the penny dropped - he thought he was driving at 30mph.
