Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
Have started another thread on Spa's and swimming pools, as for some reason the last one was closed
Just wondering if anyone has had a pool or spa installed over winter? Would be great to see some piccies ;) I'm still interested in getting a spa eventually, but I think Air con comes first :D Also wondering, has anyone bought one of those portable/blow up spas, and what do you think of them? . |

hi
we had a 6 seater spa installed in June. Have had a few pools over the years when we lived in South Africa, and thought of having one put in over here. We were surprised how cold it got here over the winter, and realized that for 4 months of the year we wouldn't use a pool.. So decided on the spa, its lovely to soak in during winter, and now we can turn down the temp so its cool during summer. have attached a picture.. |

Some are installing cartridge filters and other sand filters. Don't sand filters use more water? Not up on the technical things with pools yet. |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
I was wondering roughly how much do the spas/hottubs cost as I cant seem to find a website on them for Australia at all. We are hoping to mve to the Perth areas.

Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
We were looking at some spas at the weekend which ranged from $5k upwards for a 6 seater. I assume that does not include it being installed.
Why would sand filters use more water? I am leaning towards getting a spa eventually. I do like the idea of sitting in the warm with a book and a glass of wine. :) |

Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
our 6 seater cost $6000. The biggest mission was finding someone to lay the concrete slab to put it on, and match the existing pattern on our decorative concrete.. so that added another $2200.
Because it has 2 pumps and a heater we had to have it hardwired so that cost around $600. The jets give a really good shoulder, neck and back massage. We have often got in with a glass of wine since having it installed, and i know will do the same in summer with a book to relax. |

Why would sand filters use more water? I was told that it takes far more water to backwash a sand filter than a cartridge one. Any info from anyone would be appreciated. |

Our Spa is used twice a week every week, best money we spent. Gets more use than the pool table. We bought ours from Lanark $10.000, laid the cabling myself and cost $250 for the sparks to wire it up. Add in the concrete pad and it's alot cheaper than the pool.
And the only time we seem to relax these days is after 8pm the spa is just the ticket. Thats the company here in Melbourne we are looking at. Were they any good after you paid the cheque? |

Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
We just bought a new spa to be installed next month. We used spa world and bought a monarch because our builder (who also installed our pool) recommended them. Don't know the installation costs as it's part of a bigger building project.
They'd stopped doing the hexagonal "knight" which was in our planning approval so we asked what else they had and ended up the Grand Duke with a seconds (slight damage but repaired and same warranties) for 8.5k. I'm told the running costs might be up to $1000 per annum - horrid thought! |

Cheers Ginny Fibreglass pool 10.4m x 4.4m , solar heating, 80m concrete around the pool, retaining wall (we have a sloped block), pool lights, franna crane to carry in the pool, spa jets in pool, solar pool cover, creepy crawly etc etc : $42,300 Still to come : fencing around the pool & paving for around the pool and of course landscaping. Expected final cost $47,500 approx. The pool itself was $37,000 but its always the extra's that add up. We did admittedly choose one of the biggest fibreglass pools available with all the extra's, but other quotes we had where either the same or dearer for the same/similar quality. We did look at sinking an above ground pool, and that would have cost just under half the price for the whole package. |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
Oh My God!!! Are you rich mate??? :pThink I'll settle for the Spa, its cheaper!
:thumbsup::thumbsup: |

Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
Thats why you don't buy and Oz made spa, no insulation in the cabinet (or very little). So they loose heat and money like a bugger.
Go for the full foam ones, cost more but cost less to keep warm. I think the running cost is about 50c a day. This is the one we got http://www.hotspring.co.nz/Showroom/Grande/Grande.html

Furkme!!! That's a hell of a lot of money!
Sounds great though  I actually made a mistake. The pool itself is "only" $34,500. (we where looking at the 12m first which was $37,000) It'll still be around $47k when we finish. You have to be realistic about these things. We have renovated/built many times in the past, and hoping that it wont be as expensive you think never works. 4 weeks and they should have started (if planning permission all goes through ok) |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
the blow up spas are ok - but you have to replace the filters. we have sold over 250 of them in australia
http://www.southwestspa.net/lazyspa.html remember these spas are only a entry level spa and not the best. if you can save up for a better one -I would Paul |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
most of the site in australia do not have any prices on (why) ?? ( ours does) cause we offer the best prices and top quality .
you can also try and win one of ours! |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
we were supposed to be putting a pool in over winter - didn't quite happen that way though
I'm hoping it's a bit like childbirth and all the pain we went through starts to fade with time |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
Just had to answer some of the questions, I have managed pools up to 33m x 8 lanes.
If it were I looking to build a pool or/and a spa I would… Design my pool/ spa so that the water would be heated via a solar panel array that should make the pool/spa usable all the year round and cut down considerably on the running costs. I could use an air source or ground source heat pump to heat the water that would be even more effective. In fact the ground source heat pump would heat the water for the house as well. A sand filter is far more efficient at cleaning the water but does use water which goes to waste during a back wash however this is not a bad thing as topping up with fresh water keeps the total dissolved solids down to a reasonable level. I would not hand dose the pool but would use a metering pump so as to keep a consistent balance. I would design my pool so as to incorporate a water jet/spa pool section using the same treated and heated water. (Cheaper than buying and running one). I would build a really good pool and stretch my budget, as I would only want to build it the once. If you can wait I will arrive in Perth next year and I will build it for you (at a price). |

It looks gorgeous. Did you have problems? |
Re: Spa/Swimming pool thread.....
