Southampton from Perth
I'll probably be accussed of being a racist for posting this but there is an article on the BBC News website about a guy who needed a routine operation on his knee for a torn tendon. He went into hospital in Southampton (England) and was dead 4 days later.

The two doctors invovled - Dr Amit Misra and Dr Rajeev Srivastava - were convicted of Mr Phillips' manslaughter due to gross negligence, one came from Royal Perth Hospital. Professor Allan Skirving, of the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia, said: "They [SUHT] never made any contact... we would not have given him a good reference.
A real sad story.

Re: Southampton from Perth
I heard about this on OZ tv, only last week i think. Could not believe it to be honest - unforgiveable. Its been the case for years, doctors and nurses are 'over worked' do very long shifts and just cant cope! Doesn't look like changing to soon either as health system, by all accounts, here and in the UK, is struggling under the pressure!
Very sad and upsetting story

Re: Southampton from Perth
The hospital where I work was regularly getting in groups of doctors and theatre staff from abroad (some from Holland and S Africa I think) and using them to do loads of ops in the couple of months they were here. It really shortened the waiting list for people and for most worked well. I do remember though there being something in the local rag about one particular doctor making a couple of mistakes.

Hi, I live in Southampton, and this is obviously big news here, the hospital trust has just been fined £100,000, with an additional £10,000 costs. Apparently their insurance doesnt cover this so it is coming straight out of the hospital funds..!!
