South East Queensland Weather Alert
Just a passing word of warning - the heavy rain affecting parts of SOuth-East Queensland is likely to continue through the weekend. Winds are likely to increase to gale force
STATE FORECAST
for Friday night and Saturday
Rain areas, heavy at times near the coast and adjacent inland areas between Gladstone and Sunshine Coast, extending to remainder of SE coast district by late Saturday. Fresh to strong SE winds along most of the east coast, increasing to damaging gale force south of Yeppoon.
Through the weekend, the east coast low will move closer to the coast with the highest rainfall expected near the coastal and island communities between Gladstone and Gold Coast. The low will move southwards over northern NSW by late Monday with most of the rain clearing over the inland areas and easing to showers along the coast. Strong to gale force winds along the coast will begin to contract to south of Sandy Cape by late Saturday, and to the south coast on Sunday.
Current BoM Severe Weather Warning - for Damaging Winds, Heavy Rain and Flash Flooding, and Dangerous Surf for the southern Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Southeast Coast districts.
Issued at 11:00 am on Friday 30 May 2008
Synoptic situation: A low pressure system is developing over the Coral Sea, northeast of Gladstone. The low is expected to move south southwest closer to the coast tonight.
Damaging wind gusts to 100 km/hr have already been reported along the Fraser Island and northern Sunshine Coast. Further damaging winds with gusts to 110 km/hr are expected about coastal and island communities between Yeppoon and Sunshine Coast, including Fraser Island tonight and early Saturday. These wind gusts will spread southwards to the remainder of the Southeast Coast district during Saturday. Winds will begin to ease north of Gladstone on Saturday.
Rainfall in excess of 100mm has occurred over coastal areas between Hervey Bay and Maroochydore. This has caused localised flooding in the Hervey Bay area and some stream rises in coastal streams along the Sunshine Coast. Further heavy rain is expected about the coastal areas and adjacent inland areas between Gladstone and Sunshine Coast today and early Saturday. Some localised flash flooding and stream rises are expected with the heavier falls. The heavy rain is expected to extend to the southern parts of the Southeast Coast district on Saturday and Sunday.
Seas likely to be rough with dangerous surf conditions between Gladstone and
Point Danger with coastal erosion.
Also a flood summary warning -
The heavy rainfall over the last 30 hours has caused stream rises and isolated minor flooding in the Coastal streams between Gladstone and Caloundra. Further heavy rainfall and continued stream rises are possible tonight.

All too predictable, spent last week pumping the water tank into pool as it was too low, and the wife has her boat license booked for Sunday.
