My mother in law in england recieved a letter today saying that i owe the tax office 8000 pounds from two years ago. I was only in business for 10 months before moving to oz on a 457. At the moment iam applying for PR .

1. Will this affect my PR application.

2. What will happen now will they go through ATO.

Any info will be gratefully recieved.

I intend on paying this debt just hoping it doesnt affect my visa.

Thanks

1. No.
2. No.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's and you should be fine. Good luck!

I presume you mean that you owe the UK taxman 8,000 pounds? This will not affect your Australian PR visa application. They will not ask you if you have any overseas debts. They do not care about that.

Edited to say: The Australian Tax Office also are not interested in your UK tax debt. That's between you and the UK taxman.

If you were an employee and received all / most of your income through PAYE then it is unlikely you will owe the tax man anything. If you left part way through a tax year and were on PAYE, then it is more than likely you are owed something back as you are allowed your full personal allowance for the year even if you weren't there the whole year.

I would always recommend letting HMRC know you are non-resident anyway.
