Default Sorry, another question

Can anyone advise me which is the best bank?
We are going on a Reccy early November and would have liked to open a bank account before then so we could deposit some money in it to use on our Reccy, and at the same time open it with our passports as identification.
So then all being well when we emigrate in Apr/may it will be one less thing to worry about.
Does this make sense and is it possible to do?

Sorry about all the questions, but we have been waiting so long for the TRA and then the TRA appeal and now we have it passed there is so much to organise. We have our medicals booked for next as well.

Is there anything else anyone could recommend doing?

Thanks for everyones help

Just remember that most of the Australian banks charge an account keeping fee each month. eg with ANZ it is $5 a month and most of the others are similar. Even if you don't use it you will be charged!

Yep agree, I wouldn't be opening an account until you need to. It's really easy to do from the UK before you come out, so leave it until about 6 weeks before you come over for good.

My advice is don't just go with the first big bank that comes along....have a good look round. It depends where you are but there are some banks that don't charge for every single thing you do.

Have a look under this:-

http://moneymanager.smh.com.au/

Wherever you live, find out how many atm's there are of the bank you are thinking of going with. Bank of Queensland is good and have atms everywhere, and don't charge you the earth.

We set up a HSBC account before getting out here. No monthly fee and you get 4 or 5 withdrawls (check the site) from other banks ATM's free each month.

If you use a credit union, i.e. Police and Nurses, Home Building Society you dont get charged for banking......... please note, you dont need to be plod or a nurse to use Police and Nurses.
I've used both of these for my banking (family and business) and had several home loans with them and never had a spot of trouble.
Good luck
