Cool SONY TVs IN BRISBANE?? SETTING UP?

HI, we have a sony tv about 2-3 years old, we are taking it to brissy with us and have been told that we may have to take it to a shop to have something changed inside it to make the sound work? vision is ok but no sound, thats what we have been told. Our friends went to NZ and they didnt have to do anything, just tune it in and off they went as normal. Please help

Thanks Pete

You will probably find it easier and quicker to flog the TV before you leave as you may have to wait sometime to get it back from repairers. Also you may find it more economical as the cost of TV's here has dropped throught he floor as suppliers get rid of stock to make way for HD digital sets, which is supposed to kickin in 2008, making analogue sets redundent without HD settop boxes, which work on different freqs to UK ones. Even LCD and Plasma's have dropped in price.

There is a ceramic filter that needs to be changed. I did it myself on my Sony portable. The part cost $3. But I would go with what The Bloke says. Flog it and buy a new one.

Might cost $3 but its the labour costs that could be the killer.

we brought our samsung from the uk..... shouldn't have bothered!

bought a set top box (not HD) for it but some nutter cut our aerial cable so we've been without tv for about 5 weeks now!

had a look at tvs on internet before we left but figured we'd be just as well taking ours.... have watched prices plummet since we got here and are really kicking ourselves now!

sell it in the UK and buy new!

Go to the hardware store and get male and female cable-ends, that should fix it in the interim.

You might not have to do anything - look in the settings for tuning hte channel if you can see a letter I or B or G then thats the PAL coding - thats all the TV needs to change to use the aussie sound

If you plan on having foxtel or spend 50$ on a set-top box then bothof these things will fix the problem of sound because you decode the sound in the set-top box/foxtel and the foxtel/settop box sends the sound to the TV via RGB (like scart) cables.

dont sell it - 2nd hand tv's are worthless. yes they're cheap here but if it works and you're happy with it htere is no reason not to bring it.

Chances are it'll work straight away if it doesnt -worst case is a 50$ settop box or a aussie vcr .

Prices are plummeting all over for TV's UK & Aus because of the amount of plasma - nobody wants to buy a TV when plasma's are similar prices. The guy who owns the big electrronics chain here was in paper saying he cant give them away.

the cable has been cut outside. did a bit of interim splicing but no joy. we had rabbit ears but they were shocking with set top box.

probably just as well we've had no TV as I've had exams!

We brought our sony and have it in the study. It is designated TV for all our DVD's we accumulated in the UK. Plugged it in and it started straight away.
The neighbour said he would pop over if we wanted it connected up. If you are already bringing over a container, where is the additional cost in bringing it over?

We also bought a new Flat Screen Sony over here.
