Default Somerville - Mornington Peninsula

Hi, anyone living in Somerville or Tyabb areas?

We are currently renting in the Mornington area but like the idea of living a bit further towards West Port.

We have a 3 year old so would like to hear particularly about the kinders, primary & secondary schools.

Any constructive info would be great?

Hello,

We live on the Somerville-Tyabb border.

Advantages over Mornington:
Decent sized house for a decent price.
Decent sized block of land.
Quieter - less traffic.
Less flies in summer.

Disadvantages over Mornington:
Less exciting. Somerville is a functional shopping centre rather than a destination. Tyabb is very small and only has a few shops.
You have to drive everywhere.
More mozzies.

If buying out here, be aware that there are plans to expand the airfield although there is a lot of opposition - can't say whether it will happen or not.
There are plans to build a new port at Hastings which will mean infrastructure changes in the area.

Can't say much about the schools but I have heard the ones down on the junction of Mornington-Tyabb and Jones road are good. Not heard good reports about the Railway school in Tyabb. The secondary school in Somerville has only just been built.

Thanks for that information. It sounds promising. We don't mind living a bit of the way out if we can have some space around us. We like the idea of being near to Mornington but would like to live on a couple of acres.

The land I've seen is quite near the airfield so I'm very glad you mentioned about the possible expansion. We're going to take a drive there this afternoon to get a feel for the place so get the dinner on .
