Default Sole Use or shared container???

Help needed. We are in the middle of pricing up removals to Adelaide. We thought we would need a 20ft container, but White and Co have come back with a good quote for a shared container, as we are just short of a 20ft.
Does anyone have any experience of sharing a container that they will share with me, eg How long did it take to get to Oz (I know this varies, but some idea would be welcome).
Many thanks
Em

Sole use means its quicker, no requirement to wait for others to load/unload at different locations. Thats what we did and our shipping arrived in Sydney on 29th April having left our home on 18th March. Mind you, then it had to wait for customs!

Hi,

I work for an international removal company, so should be able to answer this one for you!

Shared containers can indeed be slightly slower than a sole use container, this is purely due to the consolidation time it takes to get everyone's goods collected and into the depot and then split out at the other end as well as the time to get everyone's documentation together and so on.

We normally say 10-12 weeks for a groupage container as opposed to 6-8 weeks for sole use. Obviously for a sole use you pay slightly more for the convenience, but if you are only just under perhaps it is worth getting a quote for both and then you can make a more informed decision based on whats important to you - speed or price.

In case you have any concerns over groupage containers dont worry! This is standard practice, and if you chose a reputable, experienced company they will be used to handling these and should be able to talk you through the whole process.

Hope that helps?

Kirsty

just to add debbie that no you dont have to find someone to share with, the removal company will have other clients who are waiting to go around the same time and group you together - its no more work for you than sole use!

We used a shared 20ft container with Allied Pickfords and i can honestley say no problems at all for us, we had our stuff packed up on the 2nd April and it arrived at our rental in Perth middle of June so roughly about 10-11 weeks. Don't know how long our stuff had to wait for the container to be filled at their depot, our consignment might have filled the other half of someone elses container. But the price was right for us and the extra $$$ come in handy here. Why pay more for sole use if you don't have too.
