Post So Whats so good about BRISBANE

Hi

We want to find a place to live in Brisbane area (not city), preferably within half a mile to a mile of a nice beach (the closer to the beach ,the better) with good bus/train links to the city and within 1 hours commute. We want somewhere that is slightly suburban and slightly beach resort with a few good cafes and shops and at least one good pub. but not loads. Is there anywhere out there that fits most or all of these requirements.
thanks
alk

Sounds just like the kind of place we're after too!! Will be interested to see if anyone replies with info. We were thinking of Cleveland but I believe there aren't any beaches. North Stradbroke is close tho, beautiful beaches!

To both answer, and not answer, your question: the airport is excellent: good planning, architecture, and design. Never made it into the city unfortunately, so can't comment on that.

'We're looking to settle in Brisbane as well.

I dont think you'll find a suburb that is too close to the beach, not within your distance to CBD. Brisbane is a river city and you need to go Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast to get a quality beach, that is around an hour away.

If you find that perfect suburb then tell me and Ill be happy to move there!

No "nice beaches"!! The best you will get is some water & a little sliver of sand at high tide. At low tide its a bit of a mudflat. Definitely no surf. Younger kids still enjoy swimming & playing there though. You will NOT get anything that looks even remotely like the typical aussie beach aka Gold & Sunshine coast in Brisbane.

If you are happy living near the water however (& the type of beach mentioned above), the rest of your requirements can easily be met in the bayside area .

(btw manxfamily, it would take you alot more than an hour to commute from either the Gold or Sunshine Coast to Brisbane )

Actually, probably the closest is Coochiemudlo Island, it has quite a nice beach, still no surf, but white sand etc .

I've got photos of the beaches at Wynnum, Cleveland and Victoria Point somewhere, but not very good ones. If I can find them i'll add them to this thread

To the original question "So Whats so good about BRISBANE", for me; it's the quiter, slower lifestyle. But then i'm not in the Brisbane CBD area, but even when I do go in, it does seem much slower and relaxed than Sydney.

I just like it here

"so what's good about Brisbane?"

Clean
Spacious
Interesting
Choice of places to go / not too far
Fantastic welcome from Aussies
No POMMIE bashing [unless in good humour]
All year round good weather
Great choice in homes/areas
Great choice in schools
Transport excellent
Plenty places to shop / choice/variety
Easy access to other cities on North / East coast
Doesn't seem too overcrowded / not too built up
Plenty to do, suit all tastes e.g theatre etc
Restaurants /cafes / foreshore's

Take a look on http://www.ourbrisbane.com/

Don't know why we like it really
