Default So what's cheaper?

There seems to be a lot of threads on here about cost of living
and things which are more expensive in Oz, but what's better value
for money over there compared to the UK.

Also, are there Australian versions of Liddle or Aldi, or even better, Wilkinsons.
Where do you lot go for your bargains

Steve

Yes, in addition to Vic, Aldi (according to their website) is also in Qld, NSW and the ACT.

Rates were cheaper $2200 including our water rates, but the valuations just came out and we are looking at a 56% increase. I still think that will be cheaper than the UK.

Petrol sounds cheaper, $146 L, but we travel far more, partner uses 3 tanks a week just to GET to the jobs, and I use around $60 a week but our kids school is 6.5klm from the house.

We have been back in recent times and I think thats all for us.

In our terms that equates to 1 pound 72 per litre.

Not the dilluted exchange rate version for tourists.

You can't compare to UK prices and people who do are simplistic in trying. Once you earn $AU things are different since what may have been cheap to you when you are earning GBP may no longer be etc. From the whole view perspective I believe things are about the same.

As to lower fuel prices. I filled my Pathfinder today at $1.58 per lt of diesel. And its going up we are told thanks to Singapore record highs for oil.

But I think that lower gas prices and any possible saving there is counterbalanced by shorter service intervals in general with Australian sold cars.

Have you noticed. Toyota are offering $180 services for the first 50k km i think.

Perhaps theres a shift... dunno. Debs just paid $838 for her 40k service on her pathfinder, and was told the 2006+ build Pathfinders ( after Oct ) i think are $1100 for same service, due to change in filters.

Yes, it seems crazy that I have to get my Navara serviced every 3,000 miles to keep it in warranty...

Overall I would say things are fairly similar prices to uk but my wages are £7,000 lower here in OZ so that makes a difference to the quality of our lives also our rent is much more than our mortgage and council tax in UK.

However I think car insurance for us is just a tad cheaper here, having said that we pay more insurance for our 2 year old hyundi getz than our brand new hyundi tucson:curse: apparently coz we bought our getz second hand we pay more insurance. I wont even begin to try to work that one out.
