So how much does a swimming pool REALLY cost?
Am thinking about putting a pool in with the next house build. I have seen these adverts for $12k etc but wondered how accurate this was by the time you do the required fencing etc?
Would be interested in hearing TRUE costs v. size
If I were to budget $15k, would this get me more than pond?
Thanks in advance

Hi Sarah
We had a saltwater pool putin last year. 11mtrs x 6mtrs. Brisbane suburbs. The pool cost approx $30,000 but we ended up adding probably another $20,000 with concreting around it, paving and pool fencing (nothing special, just black metal fence and clay pavers). Running it is not cheap either due to the maintenance & running the pump.
Still, the fun we had in it during the summer made all the costs worthwhile!!

You can buy second hand pools, I beleive they have been re-coated or whatever it is. Have a look in the Yellow pages.

Then add another $20K for paving, retaining wall & fencing.
Not cheap, but worth every cent IMO.

We've looked into this and can't jusitfy paying $30,000-$40,000 for a pool which will only add about $10,000 (as told by a real estate person) to the value of your house. An above ground pool costs between $5,000 to $10,000 and will do the same job. All that's need is some decking around it to enable the kids to be at the same level to do those jumps in they are so fond of !!! Also some clever planting does the trick.

They do need to be made to look good- read a coat of paint, a new liner every say 3-5 years and bobs your uncle. We have one with deck all around on a sloping block so its not too ugly and fits in well with the pergola deck - it does not look like an after thought.

Our 8m x 4m concrete pool cost $20,700. This price included the temporary fencing and a waterfall feature. We have just had a quote for fencing for $7,000. This is for the full fencing around 3 sides of the house, which will incorporate 2 sides of the pool including retaining wall. The other 2 sides of the pool we are having the glass/perspex see through fencing and have budged $4,000 for this. Paving we are anticipating $3,000.

Almost finished the landscaping around ours. Cost of concrete 10 x 4 and some landscaping $25,000, All the rest of landscaping - lots of!, plus mega retaining walls, paving has brought the price up to $44,000. No solar heating yet though but the pipes were put in at time of construction. At the moment it's raining so damn hard it's going to overflow any minute so I really need to get out and let some out
