Pretty unusual for someone to die from a bite these days. It seems that the more you see these snakes the less prone you are to worry about them.... which was probably this blokes downfall.
Most likely place I would be bitten is down the road at Merri creek and they are definitely there... I've always figured I would walk home and phone an ambulance if bitten. Not now though, Id be shouting my head off and waiting for someone to phone one/ or phoning straight away.
Bit of a wake up call for me this story.

He didn't bandage his foot and up his leg, to prevent the spread of venom, a basic first aid skill which could have been a lifesaver. We keep an elasticated bandage in the first aid kit for that purpose.
Before phoning for an ambulance, he rang a mate to come over and help him catch and kill the snake. Running around chasing after the snake would have made the venom travel up his leg quicker and contributed to the fatal outcome.
In our house we have flyscreens on all our open doors and windows, not just to keep the flies and mosquitoes at bay, but also anything bigger! Whether or not this man did, I don't know, but I'm always surprised at how many people don't bother with flyscreens.

I have no idea how it got in, but he must have had his door open...I've visited a few homes where the patio doors are open, screens and all, basically all day. Of course, there's almost a million flies in there too at this time of year...
