Re: Small Island mentality????

Well we live on the Isle of Man at the moment - hopefully moving to Brissie next year - at the moment the longest we can drive for before having to turn around and go back is about 2 hours.

I imagine we are in for a bit of a shock when we get in the car and go for a drive in QLD! Spoilt for choice!

I drove Melbourne to Brisbane in 17 hrs once  But was then in Brissy for a week so not too bad.

I used to live in Wodonga and we used to go for shopping trips to Melbourne for the day regularly. Its a 3 hour trip to the North side of Melbourne.

Hevs...LOL...it wasnt that bad. I think in all the trips we did up there the worst one was the time we went up for a long weekend. Other than that the rides were pretty smooth most of the way.

Hi we are hoping to move to Wodonga the early part of December 05, any useful info for us would be greatly appreciated :)

My husband has been offered a job there with Wodonga Engineering Centre, any info on this company would also be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks in advance

Hi Angie & Sean,

I love the Albury/Wodonga area and still go up there regularly from Bendigo as I have my best friend living there.

The good thing about working in Wodonga is you can live in either Victoria or NSW as you are right on the border. There are lots of things to look into when you get here when it comes to cost of living. In Vic you have cheaper and easier car registration than you do in NSW, but the stamp duty on property is more expensive in Vic.

Personally, I really like the Wodonga side of the border and would always chose to live that side, however Albury has some lovely parts to it.

As it has 2 cities side by side you are spoilt for choice as far as shopping etc goes. You have all the normal stores plus alot of the Govt Dept's have offices there.

The scenery around the area is spectacular. You have the Hume Weir which, when it has water in it, is lovely. You are also very close to the mountains which are great either summer or winter.

I dont know much about the Company your hubby is planning on working for unfortunatly. However I can ask my g/f who lives there if she has heard anything about them.

Will let you know what I find out.

Hi Again,

Thanks so much for that, can't wait to get there it really helps talking to people who know the area. Are there any parts of Wodonga we need to avoid when renting or buying ?

Angie
