Skydiving

Hi

Following from a drunken idea on a Brisbane night out it was suggested that we try a skydive. I did not get everybody’s contact details from the night out so I thought I would post here to jog people’s memories and see who else is interested.

The plane departs Redcliffe Aerodrome. The jump will be from 14,000ft which gives approx 60-69 secs of freefall. The landing zone is at Sutton's beach. Cost at the moment is $299 per person but that could reduce to $279 if we get 6 people brave enough to try it. (Maximum weight 100Kg - approx 16 Stone)

Once I get the number of people who are interested I will try and book a date. Saturdays will probably be best for most I think. Post, PM or email if your interested.

I would really love to - but I find the craters around the Camden skydiving field a trifle suspicious....

I would absolutely love to. The hubby and kids are not so keen on me doing it, but that seems a good price. From memory I think that gives about five minutes with the parachute doesn't it  If I put it nicely to the ones who care, I will definitely be up for it :D

I wasn't at the drunken night though, it that matters

Excellent news!

Yes it is 4 to 5 minutes with the parachute (depending on weight).

Tell the hubby and kids to come along to the landing as there will be a few people watching (Shell will be one of them as she is refusing to jump!)

Hopefully a few more are interested and we can set a date

Thanks

Neil

PS - Any others want to join us?

Yeah, I’m up for it. Trish may do it also, but it’ll depend on when it’s scheduled. If it’s between 10th to 28th June my parents are over so they’ll be able to look after the baby while we both try and kill ourselves.

Should be a laugh as I’m not too hot on heights either :o

I did a parachute jump (fixed line rather than free-fall) in the UK about 10 years ago. Was bloody fantastic until I landed and broke 3 metatarsles and bust my nose :o

I'd love to do it again but I'm nervous about my foot now. To anybody doing the jump - I'd recommend giving it a go because it's brilliant. I broke my foot by not following my training

Hi!

Netta told us all about it last weekend! 'Would love to!' I replied. Now......sober, not so sure considering I hate flying!!! Steve will love to do it so count him in (better check with him!) he has said so in the past. 24th would be better.

Re: Skydiving

Hi Guys

Looks like the best date will be the 24th June, so I have provisionally book it for that date :)

The next steps....Firstly I will need a $100 Deposit by 10th June which can be returned up to 3 days before we jump if any body bottles it at the last minute.

I also need everybody’s full name and weight. So if you would like to PM me those details if you don't want it published on the tin-ternet

Maximum weight is 100KG so I will be missing a couple of meals and having a decent dump before going :scared:

The whole experience will take approx 2 hours, that includes the basic training needed for the tandem jump. So if we meet at Redcliffe for 10:00 we should be finished at Sutton's Beach around 12:00ish for a picnic/BBQ if anybody is interested.

If you require any further information PM or ring.

See ya

:D

Have PM'd you. Had a check on the web but couldn't work out which company it was so will need an address to come to. Might have to do a dummy run (up to Redcliffe - not out of an aeroplane :D ) as I will be a bit nervous anyway without worrying that hubby will get lost

I have wanted to do this for soooo long but no idea why I have never done it. Probably the kids saying things like "I don't want you to die mummy  "

Hi all

We are booked in for the morning of 24th June, we won't get an exact time until the week before, but as a guide we will need to be at Redcliffe for about 0900. There will be instructions and briefing for about an hour it will take around 20-30 minutes flight time, hopefully be on the beach in one piece by about 1045-1100 for BBQ and medals!!!.

There will be a DVD shot of the whole day and there is a viewing area at Sutton's beach to watch it and if you want to buy one it is $99.

Between us we can organize transport from Sutton's beach to Redcliffe if everybody is staying for BBQ after.

If anybody else is interested we can still add people to the list up to one week before. PM if you’re keen.

So far we have a magnificent 7 :D

Later

Neil :)

Look on the bright side. Every lob I've done I've been a bit busy or I've never had time to admire the view or have some bastard trying to cut me up.

One of these days I'll do another jump just for myself. Nice and easy. Like stepping off a bus on Oxford Street during Christmas shopping.

Hi all

Deposits have been paid and the 9 brave souls are:

Me (Neil)
Mik
Trish
Steve
Penny
Greig
Damien
Simon
Glen

If you loose your bottle I need to know by Monday 19 after that date you will loose your deposit.

Times are still not confirmed and won’t be until Thursday 22nd, as that is when the flying schedule is sorted out. At the moment it is looking like meeting between 08:00Hrs and 10:00Hrs at Suttons Beach. I will post exact time Thursday night/ Friday Morning and I will also PM my mobile number in case of any problems.

A rough guide to the plan on the day.

BBQ party and jumping party will all meet up at Suttons beach at a time TBC on Saturday Morning. Transport is provided to Redcliffe Aerodrome for the jumpers. Land back at Suttons beach (Hopefully!!) approx 1 Hour after departing for Tea and Medals and heroic stories!!!oh and a BBQ. Sutton Beach has a few electric BBQ so depending on how busy the place is on the weekend it may be safer to have food which doesn’t need cooking, we are going to chance it and take burgers!!

Each jumper will have a dvd shot by the instructor with the opportunity to view it at Sutton beach and an option to buy it for $99. Cost on the day will be $179 for the jump.

I will also send this post via e mail to ensure everybody reads it. I don’t have Glen’s email so can somebody forward it on please.

Cheers.

Confirmation of times will be Thursday night / Friday Morning.

Not long now :D

Re: Skydiving

This is my advice for parachute jumps:

If you can't remember your landing drills and can't work out the wind direction,
I'd get as tight as you can, and shut your eyes in the last bit.

This stops you reaching out for the ground, and anticipating the impact.
Wait for the ground to hit you, not 'you' the ground.

A good jump is a jump you get up from.

Enjoy!

Worked for me most of the time, we gave up on the training after a while, often there wasn't time to get in to the right position, especially after you'd bumped off another blokes chute, or had a guy chasing you all over the sky.

I was more glad to get shot of my equipment before I landed. I was more then inclined to take whatever landing I could get.

Hi all

Not good news :(

The weather is not looking great for Saturday :( so I have not got a final time to meet up yet!

There is a possibility that the weather will clear up and final preparations will be made tomorrow morning and I will post tomorrow evening.

The plan now is to meet up at a time TBC and if the weather is not good to jump we can all arrange another date to jump. Not sure what else there is to do around Redcliffe if your not throwing yourself out of a plane so any "Wet Weather plans" would be an idea. (Emma & Wayne bring your Frisbee!!)

Fingers crossed and I will post again tomorrow night to confirm all

Hi

Sorry for the late post but I have just finished work

Good News :D

Looks like the weather is picking up and I have finally got the times.

Meet at 08:45 SHARP for a 09:00 briefing at Suttons Beach, Redcliffe. (Directions at end). First wave will depart for the Aerodrome at 09:30 and should be back on the ground around 10:15/10:30. The second wave should be landing around 11:30.

First Wave: Mick, Trish, Damien, Penny, Steve

Second Wave: Neil, Greig, Glen, Simon.

Not 100% as I was told that info over the phone and didn't write it down. DOH!

ALL Jumpers needs to be at Suttons Beach at 09:00 for the briefing regardless of which wave you're in.

Ensure you are wearing warm comfortable clothes and enclosed footwear, also skydiving with a hangover is a NO NO

Direction. From Gateway (M1) take Anzac Av (71) follow the (71) right to the end until you come to a roundabout just before the beach and turn right onto Marine Parade. Follow Marine Parade for approx 500 Meters and Suttons Beach should be on your left. Go to the far end of the car park and I will see you there!!!

F'in Weather !!

Hi Guys and Girls,

What a disaster, :o one of the reasons we left the UK was because it was impossible to arrange anything outdoor due to the weather and now our skydiving has been called off because of low cloud and rain, BUMMER.

But good news :D I have been assured that stable good weather is with us for the next week so the dive is back on at 12:45 tomorrow (Sunday).

So new plan. If we meet at 12:30 at Suttons beach for the 12:45 briefing we should then be back on the ground at around 13:45 - 14:00 just in time for burgers and dodgy prawns (if Netta brings any!!).

Hope this all works out, and see you tomorrow.

Simon and Glen have dropped out due to other arrangements but I really know it is because they are both soft southern shandy drinkers!!!!!!!

After a lot of hanging around and mucking about we finally manage our skydive today. It was absolutely cracking I totally enjoyed it and I hope the other jumpers did as well :)

I don’t think you can ever beat that feeling of getting thrown out of an airplane at 14,000ft  :scared:  :scared: What a great experience and if I had the funds and the time I think I would do it every weekend.

If anybody has any ideas for another exciting outdoor activity I am all ears!

For the few who bottled it, once you get sorted let me know and I will pass on the details of the company we used.

Until next time
