No, it won't work. The footprint for the Astra 2D satellite that carries Sky is fairly tightly focussed on the UK and some parts of Northern Europe.
You can leave a Sky receiver in the UK and then watch it in Australia using a Slingbox over broadband Internet. I've done it and it works fairly well.

I've seen piccies of someone using Foxtel and the handset looks exactly the same as a SKY handset. Anyone know if a Skybox would be compatible with a foxtel card and dish?

Rupert Murdoch didn't get to be personally worth $340m by allowing people to save money by reusing satellite boxes!

Not a great deal worse than UK tv. I was back in the UK a few months ago and astonished at how crap tv is - soap operas every day, make over shows, big brother and reality stuff. Truly dreadful. Oz is relatively similar.

Yes it's available on Foxtel and I think they actually show more games than Sky in the UK. The downside is that the timings are a bit unsociable if you want to watch it live although many are reshown later.

I must be honest and say that in my opinion UK TV is far superior to Australian.
Having just watched" Life on mars", and other series from the Uk its a welcome relief from CSI this that and the other.Quality TV that isnt produced here.
