Default Skills listing......

Hiya.....
Don't know much about the skills visa application process, applying for a spouse visa myself, so can anybody tell me does your profession have to appear on the skills listing to have any chance of being granted a visa? As my sister is an engineer but her skill does'nt seem to be on this listing. Does this mean she has no chance of emigrating?
Thanks C x

Hiya,

As it's your sister you could look into visas where you could sponsor her. I don't think it means she can't migrate, just that the particular visa you were looking at might not be the appropriate one. You would probably be best taking advice from an agent on this one, or if she did one of those free online visa eligibility tests (google ot yahoo search will bring up tonnes) she could figure out if there's a visa for her that way.

Good luck with it!

There is a skills list for most skilled visas, yes. Not for other visas.

As my sister is an engineer but her skill does'nt seem to be on this listing.
What on earth are you saying? Engineers have been a skilled occupation for a long time, but you need to be properly qualified.

Have you looked at form 1121i?

We're not suggesting she isn't qualified, but to have a better idea, we need to know what her degree was in...

It could have been any of the following:

Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Process Engineering, Civil Engineering... blah blah blah... the list goes on...

Her exact job title may not be on the list, but to assess her elegibility, knowledge of her exact qualifications is necessary, then knowledge of her work experience.

Anyway, why are you doing all of this for her?

<Bangs head against table repeatedly...>

I was only asking!

I came here as an engineer, so if she needs any advice feel free to ask, but will need more information than you have supplied already.

My skills wern't immediately/easily identified in the list, as my PhD specialised me into a different field (Fluid engineering), from my degree (Electronic Engineering) so I recevied an NEC (Engineer Not Elsewhere Classified) assessment from the IEAUST, which may be of interest to you. This is essentially the classification that they give to people who fall between the black and white lines of the generic engineering classifications.

I hope this helps.

It seems we got off on the wrong foot with each other so sorry about that!!!!
All I know about her job is basically what her job title is and that she works loads of hours and travels a lot to see suppliers about about quality issues. Maybe she will fall into the NEC category too. Think I will get her to speak to an agent to know for sure, thanks again for the replies. C x
