What is best for the child must come first. What is best for the parent is secondary. Your example is about what is best for the parent.

No it's not because the children involved are now totally screwed up mentally because one parent has been able to poison them against a truly loving and honest father for ever more and he can do nothing about it to make it right. His only concern is the children but his devastation isn't made easier because he put himself second.
