Hi there
Just back from NZ via Singapore but also stayed there before. You shouldn't have any probs with Singapore hotels - most are very high standard, clean & cheap. Last time we stayed at New Otani - good location near river. This time stayed at Marina Mandarin which was excellent - lovely swimming pool, great location near shopping and river etc. Couldn't fault it.
On the way back we stayed on Sentosa, which cost a bit more but was fab for kids - beaches, lots of very cheap attractions (i.e. free laser/ lights show - very spectacular) and more of a holiday vibe to it. There were several families staying there en route to Oz/ NZ. If you've got a couple of days to spare I'd say it's a good option for families.
If you're flying with Singapore Airlines check out their website for their own packages - ours cost £32 each for Marina Mandarin, inc. transfers, 5* hotel and loads of free tickets, bus tour of city, boat ride etc. and 50% off hotel food. Brilliant offer!

Re: singapore help
Hi Kate,
We're doing the same on the 21st and found a great deal with Marina Mandarin hotel in Singapore. Stay 2 nights and get 3rd free. We're paying around 300 Sing$ per night for family room wich comes down to 120£. Not bad for a very good hotel. by the way that includes breakfast.
