If not what are the other dimensions please ?

Just trying to estimate what size crate we will need.

Thanks

Chris
Its about 20 * 8 * 8, PSS reckoned it was about 1050 cubic feet by the time packing came into place. When you see them on the back of a lorry they don't look that big.

We had a quote for £4644 for a 20ft!!!!
But have gone with PSS at £3200 Wiltshire to Sydney.
Couldn't believe they could vary quite so much!
Make sure you check insurance prices too.
The shipping ones usually range form 2.5% to 3.5% but there are other companies that will do it.We have gone with PSS at 2.5% for peace of mind using just one company really.
Good Luck!

Hi,

I have just realised that the price that i stated, £2,300, does not include the insurance, but even with that included it still seems to be a lot cheaper than most.

We are going with Anglo Pacific and are paying £2800 for 670 cubic feet in a shared container. Pickfords wanted £500 more for a sole use 20ft container. As we are not in a hurry to get our stuff to Brisbane, we are happy with the shared container arrangement.
I guess we could have shopped around a bit more but I was amazed how many companies didn't even reply to my online enquiries.

Our stuff leaves 21/7, we will follow at the end of August.

Default Latest 40ft container prices

FWIW here are the prices we've been quoted within the last 2 weeks for a sole use 40ft container, Cambridge, UK to Melbourne, Vic, full packing service inc. 'special care items' (we have masses of china, crystal, books, paintings, etc etc):

Pickfords - £6588
John Mason - £5733
Crown - £6894

Now comes the fun bit - deciding who gets the business and haggling the prices down.....!

Who was that quote with? We've been quoted £3.8k too, inclusive of insurance with Pickfords. Newcastle to port, don't know which port, then onto Perth.

Walla
Walla that is nearly 10,000 aus dollars, why not just start fresh when you get there, we are going with suitcases and thats it!!

total fresh start (apart from my Playstation 2, would be lost without that, wife slaps back of head)

We were told we could share container which will save approx £1000. However some companies will say you need sole container so they make more profit.

Mr Madsad
When you take everything that you own into account, then add it all up, It will cost you a fortune to replace your items, dont forget about CD's, DVD's, Videos, Games Etc... some people may not think that they have many of these but when you pay an average price of about £10 for a CD, they all soon add up. Our own CD collection worked out to be just under £3,000, thats a lot of money to then go ahead and replace them in Oz, well that would be the case if it is your intention to do this. We could not give up our collection, it has taken years to get them all gathered together. And those are just the smaller items.

We worked out that the total amount that all of our belongings cost came to about £25,000 (new), And this was the figure after we had given stuff away to friends & charities. now when you are just paying about £2,500 to take it all with you it makes a bit of sense. But then again there are people who just want to make a fresh start, and good luck to them, and everyone else too.

Mark.

We used Pss and were happy with the service. It cost us 3200 pounds from Surrey to Sunshine coast last year.

I've done several searches on this subject over the past year and a half since we first decided to move and more recently since we started to book shippers for estimates. We've just got back our first quote - £3845 for a single use 20 foot container from Essex to Adelaide ...have prices really gone up to this much or is this really, really high????????
Hoping other quotes come in a lot lower!!!!!!!!!
Susan

Hi Susan,

We're also moving from Essex to Adelaide and we are using John Mason. Their quote is only £2973. They reckon we'd take up 30ish ft of a 40ft container. That seems to be more space than you need, so you're quote shold be cheaper still. Who knows, it might be you we share the container with!

Here's their number:

0208 667 1133 or 0151 449 3938

Our only quote so far was from PSS

Essex to Adelaide

442cubic feet @ GBP1983

Is that (7 x 8 x 8) then???? Not a lot is it!

But when you consider it includes out 3 piece suite, dining table, chairs, chest of drawers, desk, bookcase etc. It is an awful lot cheaper than buying new when we get there!!
