Shipping quotes

Hi guys,
Anyone had experiance of shipping companys giving a low quote to get the job then when it is packed on the container telling you you needed more space than originaly quoted and charging you extra?
Just in the process of getting quotes now got 5 companys coming round this month had two already and theres quite a differance in cubic feet needed.

We played one off against the other. Pickfords was more expensive with less cubic feet, but we managed to get them to agree to match the cheper quote including the footage..... We just had to fax a copy of the original quote

I'd still recommend them to be honest, but it would have been cheaper to go with Allied Pickfords, who were the only company to say we needed 40' rather than 20'.
I don't think PSS set us up - I've heard too many good things about them on here.

We were told that our price included all fees - both ends - (except for any quarantine cleaning/destroying charges which were out of their control). When our stuff arrived, we had to pay a further $375 quarantine fee to get it! :curse: When I queried it, the Oz co said that it was standard and WAS NOT cleaning/destroying fees, just their standard fee! I checked my invoice, and sure enough it states that quarantine fee is not included. Our fault for not double checking, but with everything else going on, you think you can trust the salesperson

We are going through this process at the moment and had 3 companies round. We will be having a shared container and they have all said that if we end up having more, or less, the actual charge will change. They have all pointed out the quarantine charges.
So far Pickfords have been the cheapest. Will wait until we have all the quotes in and then go through them all in more detail.

we've just used www.migrateglobal.co.uk sole use of a 20' container door to door with us doing all the packing and from manchester to the sunshine coast it was about 2800 pound (no pound sign on this aussie laptop) after custom clearance and quarantine.

Hi, we have been quoted £1600 for 2 bed house and part garage (mainly work tools) for a shared container by Allied Pickfords, although this doesnt include insurance thats additional. Does this sound reasonable or is there another good shipping company in West Yorkshire that anyone can recommend. Cheers

Yes - last week with PSS unfortunately. They gave the cheapest price (£3450) and were the most personable. Packing was very well done, but they didn't fill the empty cupboards with towels etc, and we ended up with 26 boxed of unknown things left over. Net result - another £900 after negotiation from £1100 extra.

Just want to know a true price and dont want to be ripped off.
TBH when we looked down the first quote list it had stuff missing then extra stuff which we said we wasnt taking included, also they didnt mention the additional quarratine costs and that garden furniture and fridges may be destroyed at your costs.
But the chap was really nice and had a lot of time talking bout oz with hubby as he came from oz.

so far shared 20 container
PSS - 527 cubic feet = £2448
Doree Bonner - 670 cubic feet = £2900.
Crown quote over internet - 527 cubic feet = £2599
These do not included quarrantine or insurance. now beginng to think its not worth the hassle and may take nothing.
By the time you add on the insurance then the quarrantine and inspection fees is it really worth it .
say rough guide
£2900. shipping
£420 insurance
£125 Inspection fee
= £3445. plus add on any clearing and cleaning they may do.

Won't your arms get tired paddling all that way?
