Definatley depends on what you are taking over with you, I have really scrutinised what I am taking this time round, as a lot of it was never ever unpacked last time I moved there, such as my drier, wardrobes etc, so am selling quite a bit on ebay here to be shut of it, my shipping quote is just over 1,500 quid, 2 adults 2 teenagers. I am very happy with that quote!

I have just had 5 quotes in Dec.'09. Excluding 2 corporate movers, the quotes from PSS, Doree Bonner and Anglo Pacific ranged from approx. £3600 to £4100 for a 20ft container.
Be careful to compare like-for-like in the quotes, as some contain all relevant taxes, duties (except for unforeseen customs, but them this will be the same for all companies).
Also, check insurance rates. Most companies quote 3% of your specified valuation, but you can purchase separate insurance for 2% from a specialist, or just use this to negotiate the shipping agent rate down (I did).
Also check to see what else you might need, like storage at the other end. If you don't find a place in the time it takes for your shipment to arrive, their might be storage costs, and these vary greatly I found.
I am moving a 3 bedroom house, and am downsizing on several items like wardrobes, an old sofa etc to ensure it all fits into a 20ft container.

We have had a just had the guy come from Crown Relocations. He has verbally quoted around £5000 for sole use 20ft container and £3500 for a shared. We have a two bedroom property. Insurance quoted at 3.7% of item values.
Interestingly in the written quote he is going to do two seperate quotes for each sole and shared with and without our 2 x 2 seater leather sofas as he said that they may bump the price up!

Still waiting on White & Co and John Masons to contact us.

Forget that quote thats way too expensive I have had approx 7 different quotes and they range from £3200 - £3900 for 3 bed house 20 foot container sole use. Add 3% for insurance and its door to door. Suprisingly going for the £3200 with a months free storage with Fox's removals.

Having used Pickfords when we moved to Oz, and how much damaged stuff we had when we arrived and how inept the staff were I personally wouldn't touch Pickfords with a bargepole.

Just to adivse I wouldn't recommend Anglo Pacific now that our stuff has arrived. Quite a lot of stuff was damaged (quite a bit of furniture), badly packed (tiffany lamp shade & a crystal decanter found at the bottom of boxes with kitchen stuff in them and both broken )

Also the after care has been pretty poor, and if you take out insurance for your shipment to see if mould is covered...... we have 2 chesterfields and they are both covered in it (one more than the other) its taken a week to find out they won't pay for them to be cleaned..... the guy came out today and it will cost us $150 and he's noticed that one of the arms is busted (we never noticed as it was too bad to sit on :O( )

My advise is to BE CAREFUL really think about how much things would cost you to replace and repair in the country you going to as it is difficult to find places to help when your not fimiliar or know enough people to get word of mouth.

However, nothing can beat having your things around you xx

We had a guy from Pickfords come to our house for a survey. He estimated about 425 cubic ft, shipping from Manchester to Perth and quoted approx £2300. We found Pickfords to be very efficient, informative and friendly. We have since got a couple more quotes which have also come it around £2000.

Dave

I have sent you a message but just incase you don't notice - does your quote include packing and door to door delivery as we had Crown today and they have asked for over $6000 Melbourne to Scotland for half the space you are getting. We want to go home next month so really need to get shipping sorted asap

Thanks

Default Re: Shipping Quote In - Is this expensive?

We are just going thru the quote stage for our removals. We are hoping to move next week!!!!

Luckily some companies are able to accomodate us: ( London to Brisbane)

Wentworth International movers : £2485 - half container
Pickfords quoted £2870 - half a container
Luxfords :£3700 - sole use of container

We only really need half a container as not taking lots of big furniture. ( no wardrobes or sofas)

All the companies were informative and came across professional.
Just have the dilema of do we go with a well known compnay like Pickfords (who are based in Australia also) or go with a more local company?!!

Any suggestions?!!!
