Shipping - questions to ask
Hi,
Getting to the point where I will be contacting shipping companies. I have trawled through the numerous posts that cover this area and have compiled the following list of questions that I thnk need to be asked. Is there any I have left out that are needed?
Is price fixed
What is not included in price
Is storage in UK/Australia included or how much will it cost
Is Packing and Unpacking included in price
Is AQIS fee included in price
make sure that the company in the UK pays the agent in Aus
What if want to take more than quote?
When do shipping company need to know address going to?
Is 20ft container or 20 ft reefer (reefer has less space???)
Who does the pack and unpack, companies own staff?
do you outsource any of your work in Australia/UK
Customs – what things can’t we bring? i.e alchohol
Customs - how long does it take to clear customs
Can goods arrive in Australia before we do?
Time before it leaves UK
Time to reach Australia and clear customs
how much notice they need for booking
Insurance - what %, what is covered, does it matter who packs, cover in UK and Australia
Insurance - are goods covered whilst in storage in UK/Australia?
Insurance - can we decide which things are to be insured or is it whole container
Insurance - do we have to take theirs?
Insurance - How long to check for damages?
Do wardrobes, drawers need to be emptied
Dismantle beds etc?
Is all packing removed, can we keep boxes?
Thanks for any offered help
Tim

Tim,
I think you have covered them all. Insurance will be 3% - 4.2% depending on who you get. Its worth Searching this forum on Insurance, as you can go with the company the Shipping agents use and they will charge 1.5%. This is what we will do.
