Default shipping question

Hi guys,

just been into town buying a few things in the sales, well with 70% off just couldnt resist, brought bed linen, towels, new pots n pans and other stuff, my question is will i need to take this stuff out of the packaging as it is new or is it ok to leave as it is, thinking if there will be an import tax on new goods? it will all be packed up together with our old stuff.

thanks papilon.

I understand some things won't be liable for tax even if they are brand new, although many items such as electronic goods will very likely get taxed if new, and they need to be at least 1 year old to avoid this.

Someone on here will hopefully confirm this or put me right. Personally, I'd recommend you unwrap everything as if there are a lot of obviously new things, and suspicions raised, Customs may take a more thorough inspection.
