Speaking from experience..........
After our first quote coming in for nearly 4k from Dolphin, awaiting PSS, Robinsons and Crown to come in, I am not for one moment saying that they are cheap, but the estate agent is charging me nearly 2.5k to print a few brochures of and organise some appointments for people who might want to buy our house to see it (no doubt they would prefer us to show them around also). But for 4k, 3 blokes will come and wrap everything in our house, hopefully carefully, load it onto a container, ship it to the other side of the world, see it through customs and then unload it in a house in Sydney.

It seems very good value for money compared with the robbing Bas***** that are estate agents....

Yes thats what I expected the shipping company I hired to do and they were paid well too. I hope you dont get the thieves who helped themselves to quite a few of my personal effects and then smashed quite a few other bits and pieces! Just thankful I had taken insurance with an independant company as I dont believe the shipping company would have paid up. They were not interested at all. Obviously a common occurrence.
But I do agree about the estate agents too.

sorry if i sound a bit thick but i thought you just paid your quote and that was it.insurance, quarintine and everything would be included!! didn't think you would have to pay for anything else at the other end!!
Also, when your stuff arrives,if your not ready for it, how much on average does it cost to store??

Hi, I just had White& Company finish our packing Uk end yesterday. Was interested to hear that they were way cheaper than Crown & Pickfords. Although we were completely last minute (only had the go ahead last week to book it) and had only got 2 quotes. They were the only company that could do it short notice. We had about 3/4 of a containers worth and they advised me to get my own container rather than share (don't know if this was wise financially, but at least its more secure that I'll get everythin back in one piece, Hopefully!) The packers arrived at 10 on Wednesday, were finished by 3. Didn't stop bar a couple of tea breaks. Arrived at 9 yesterday, finished by 1. Had to park on a busy 1 way, narrow street but had all under control and were absolutely great. Given that things go well at the Brisbane end, would definitely recommend them to anyone, although as time was limited I hadn't researched into other insurance so they stung us a bit for that. Whats the average percentage for insurance? We paid 3% and I don't know if that was high or not? Anyway its done now for the time being, thought they were great and am so relieved that its gone!
We fly on the 28th and 'cannot wait!) Will have to change my user name as its far too cheesey!

I bought Insurance with a company called Letton Percival, do a search. When I claimed, they were fantastic. No quibbles.
I also paid $235 for quarantine and a further $35 p.w for storage until the goods were cleared.

Yer, I wouldn't brag about any mover until the final job is complete - Ie you have your stuff in Oz.

We found that the mover in the UK subcontracts the mover you get in Oz, and that was where our problem was. Waiting 12 weeks for our stuff that was sitting at Brisbane, and only got it after emailing the MD of the company. We used Excess Baggage in the UK but unfortunately ended up with Kent in Oz. Only one glass and one bowl broken though, which is not bad for a container load of stuff.

I hope it all goes well for you.

If you're with White & Co, then you do *not* have insurance! Instead you have bought limited/extended liability cover. That is not the same as insurance. It only covers you (and only for a very small amount per item/box) if you can prove that your poossessions were in the hands of White & Co AND that they were negligent at the time they were damaged. That's virtually impossible to prove (your stuff might got damaged on the container or even if you can prove that it was damaged whilst on the White & Co lorry, how can you prove that they were negilgent).

Only companies authorised by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) can sell you insurance. You can check that on their web site. An even easier "check" is whether you have paid "Insurance Tax Premium" (ITP). If you haven't paid ITP, then you haven't bought insurance.

We moved over in 2001 so a bit outdated really, and I cant remember name of UK side but black cat on the boxes, Grace at the NSW end.

All went smoothly except one box disappeared. All was packed by movers who listed each box. The box that went was labeled 'small electricals'. The contents had been carefully organised, looking back. However we couldn't be sure which side things went missing. We complained to Grace, who asked for details of what was missing, but because of various traumas we never chased this up.

We've moved numerous times in UK and boxes went missing 2 out of three times on average.

Lets face it, everybody has a different story to tell when it comes to shipping, its just a case of luck at the end of the day.. Can't believe there are so many stories where some has had trouble!

Obviously the shipping companies feel that migrating is a dull and uneventfully affair, so to stop you getting bored they liven things up by wrecking or nicking your stuff, give you silly inflated prices that make you laugh, stitched up with their small print and shafted on the insurance!!! "Thats entertainment"!

It is a joke really when you think of the costs and the fact that you are trusting them with your personal goods. Its so hit and miss, your better off with a white-van man out of your local paper.
I know i wouldn't get away with pi**ing people about like that in my job, i'd be out of work in no time - they know, they have you by the short and curlies and you need them!!!

Its all part of the experience - "Its all good fun"!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We used Excess Baggage and they were brilliant and cheaper than the rest. We have just moved back to the UK and insured with Letton Percival in the UK as it's only 1.53% of the cost of your stuff. Most shippers charge 3%. Hope this helps.

Your grammar, or lack of it, is terrible. I tried reading your post but it makes so little sense I gave up. In future, please proof read EVERYTHING you submit. If an impressionable child was to read this they could get very confused about acceptable and unacceptable uses of the english language. Have you had a formal education ?

so when the lorry came with the container, of course that's another story, he want into the next door neighbor wall, while reversing, then he said he wont pay for the damages through he's insurance, of course he drove off and park the lorry five street away from our house, so the packers had to pack one little white van with our boxes drive off 5 streets away, unload them into the container, it went off until 9 o'clock @ night they were suppose to be finished by 3 o'clock.
so that was that, then the packers tell us @ 9 o'clock , that there isnt enough space in the container, so they will have to take the rest of the stuff back to their warehouse & shipped them separately, fine, how long does it take we asked, packers said not long, it would come at the same time as the container.
ok we get here, to find out if they both left UK , they said no, if you want them, you pay for them to come, so cut the long story short, we have everything unpack at this end ourselves, because ozzie packers dont unpack any of your boxes, they will only put your bed , & anything below the waist, that has to be put togather.
so dont believe half what they say over there, so we are still waiting for half our kitchen stuff, all the hinges that they flat pack in UK, all we have is the wood of the 4 wardrobe, we cant put them to gather, we cant claim the insurance for them until we get all our stuff, & most of my fragiles stuff wasnt wrapped properly it broke.
but the mangers who helped us to get our stuff shifted from UK, in Adelaide was first class, & she said she cant believe how much lies they tell the people back in Britain.
so your choice to go for them, but they will charge you extra, eventually, I would never recommend them.
hope you make the right choice, it is the most stressful time, good luck.
