Default Shipping - Lost stuff - Company to avoid?

After spending a year in Australia we have come back to the UK - we shipped our stuff (35CuFt) 6 weeks ago.....
Except 5 out of 6 boxes havent arrived.
We have used Excess International Movers - Boltt International and all they can say is 'we have sent the claim form in the post'
We have lost my husbands work tools (20 years worth of specialist tools) the kids school records, toys, my work clothes and loads of personal stuff.
And sadly we are only insured for the tools. I will let you all know the progress of this but so far it looks pretty bad. It all went through customs but then the trail went cold when it was delivered by TNT........
Im just so upset, If I felt they were making an effort to find it - might be better but I suppose we're just another claim form.....

That is absolutely appalling! I would certainly be doing lots of foot stamping and throwing toys out of my cot - demanding to speak to the very biggest bigwig available....mentioning that unless the stuff turns up you'll be making sure everyone on this forum is informed of the company name etc.

I just copied and pasted what I posted to them and said to them I'd keep updates with the progress/ not. At the moment it looks like TNT is at fault as they took the stuff to deliver.....it got all the way from Sydney, through customs then once in the UK.....?????

I cant afford a lawyer but you lot can be pretty scary sometimes, nice to know the support is there, thanks

I used to deal with TNT a lot when I worked for a furniture firm, they are good a "mislaying" things BUT 9 times out of 10 the items turned up in one of their hubs.

Hang in there, I'm sure they'll find it

At least there is a chance of it turning up again in the UK.. a much smaller place to hunt in than over here

If there is anything we can do mate, just yell. By the way, I am trying to put the photo up .. might need to ask the expert though !!

Thank you, that's good to know -

The personal stuff is so precious and irreplacable that it has to be looked after. For gods sake that's what we're paying for.

How can you lose 6 tea-chest size boxes? Mistakes do happen, but we informed them on tuesday and so far we dont even know how many boxes the delivery driver picked up from the docks LAST thursday, so all very well being nice.

Ill let you know any feedback.

Can't offer any advice, I'm afraid. Just wanted to say that I hope your things turn up safely. It's the personal stuff that hurts the most - furniture and electrical stuff can be replaced, even tools up to a point, although it must be heartbreaking having spent 20 years collecting them. But you can't replace the personal stuff.

Good luck.

Rosie

I would be sorely tempted to demand to know who else they delivered to that day, and ask them what they are doing about going back to those places and checking your boxes werent delivered to them....
hope you get it sorted.....

The insurance cover for removal companies is a real disgrace. We are having trouble because a number of our possessions were badly damaged. The problem is that the customer has to cover the company’s liability; therefore they have no incentive to be careful with your goods. If things get damaged it has no financial implication to them as a company because it is the customer who pays for the insurance. When we got our future deliver to our new house, in stead of carrying the sofa up the drive the dragged it, when we moaned, the reply was, it’s insured isn’t it.

I was particularly Pi#$%d off having to insure the bloody boxes the goods were in, it add another 80 quid to the cost of the insurance.

At tip is not only to check up on the company in the UK but also who will handle your goods Oz side. We had the misfortune of having Movements International ( based in Sydney) and the standard of service was pretty poor. We paid extra for an unpacking service. When the stuff arrived they dumped the boxes in the house and went to leave. When I asked about the unpacking, the response was we’ll only make a mess, you’re better off doing it yourself and then they buggered off.

OK this is the latest from Excess

"I have just been speaking to TNT to check the progress on the search, and
I am sorry to have to report that your missing cartons haven't turned up
yet.

However, I have been able to give them more information with regards to a
further description, thanks to your husband, which should help. In reply
to your message below, TNT are looking into these areas as well, in fact
they are looking at getting the CCTV footage from the off loading at the
depot. TNT have assured me that they are continuing their search, and
they are convinced that the missing cartons are somewhere."

So full marks for trying...and I do feel better for thinking that they are trying but its over a week now and 5 big cartons and a mega-barbecue (that took me ages to clean!) Mike was really looking to impress the neighbors with his multi-burner & saussage sizzler.....

I just read your thread about TNT and had to reply. I recently used TNT to move 7 boxes from the US to the UK. To say they were useless would be too kind. Absolutely everything that could go wrong did. At every stage of the process my self and my brother in the UK badgered them relentlessly. In the end the boxes were delivered to Southampton 2 weeks late. However they were there so that was a relief. The original quote from TNT was £1200 however my brother received a call from someone in their office asking for £3000! My brother told them where to get off and also told them he wasnt paying for any of their service and they immediately backed down and cancelled their charge in full.

My only advice is to be a complete pain and dont allow them to forget about your shipment. Good luck to you I hope they find your boxes.
