Default Shipping Invoicing And Accidents

Hi.

We're getting to the point now where we have to consider which shipping company to use to ship our stuff to Brisbane.

My questions are:

(1) Does the shipping company normally require payment in full before shipping the goods?

(2) Which is the best shipping company to use (from the UK)?

(3) How safe are the contents, once within the shipping container? Do accidents happen frequently or infrequently? Has anybody got their stuff at the other end sodden and damaged beyond repair or simply never received them at all because they took a "swan dive" of the side of the ship somewhere in one of the 7 oceans?

Cheers.

Hi

We are using Excess International on 23rd March.
They required a £250 deposit and then you are invoiced the balance once they have calculated the volume of the shipment.
They will not ship your goods until you have paid them.

Do a search on here for shipping companies and you'll find good and bad stories about virtually every one!

Not too sure about accidents/damages whilst being shipped (although some pictures will probably appear on this post soon!) but we are using Letton Percival for insurance, again based on recommendations from this forum. I have spoken to them and they extremely helpful and considerably cheaper than the insurance the removal companies sell.

We are using PSS, they took a £200 deposit and payment is due within 7 days of shipping. ie the container is being delivered and loaded on the 24th - payment is due the 31st. We are giving a cheque to the driver.

Aha, so this would work well with completion of house sale and transfer of house sale funds, which is really why I asked the original question.

Thanks for all the replies so far. Much appreciated.

If like many you need to use the proceeds of your sale to pay for the shipping - most companies will allow you to let your solicitor settle the bill once it's all completed. They will need to get your solicitor to write them a letter confirming this (and possibly containing specific wording).

John Mason.....totally brilliant service. Here's my original thread
Here

A few breakages, which they are going to pay for in full. No drama. Didn't like the items that broke anyway.

One thing we did notice - any white plastic on goods such as fridges, freezers, clocks etc....tends to yellow a bit with the warm, humid conditions they go through. Not a biggie, just thought you'd like to know.
