Shipping Insurance
Does anyone know what kind of rates/% are charged for shipping insurance?
Are there any ways of taking out your own insurance rather than the shipping companies policy?

Hi
We have been looking into this - the shippers insurance is £3.00 per £100.00 of the replacement value!!
Hope this helps...
cheers

Re: Shipping Insurance
Hi
Insurance rates varied with every removal company our friends got quotes from - yes you can take out your own insurance rather than using shipping companies policy - there have been a few threads on different rates people have managed to get - perhaps you could do a search?
Think, if I remember correctly - someone managed to get a 1-1.5% rate - as apposed to shipping companies rates varying between 2.5 to 3.5% - big difference!
Need to do some homwork me thinks!
Cheers

Think mine was 1.5% covering everything. It was less for just complete loss. I took out shipping companies own insurance, which was underwritten by one of the larger insurance companies.

All my stuff has been sent with Seven Seas www.sevenseas.co.uk
I couldn't praise them enough for their customer service. The boxes to be delivered were contracted out to DHL (who turned up a day late), these things happen so fair enough, but the guys there were fantastic and getting me updates and really worked hard to make sure it was all sorted asap - all you can ask for really I think.
As soon as my stuff is delivered I'll let on about their actual shipping
Dont know if this helps - http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...r&pagenumber=2
The insurers I have just remembered are Norwich Union

Hi
We've just taken out insurance with Letton Percival at a rate of 1.53%. Phone number is 0151 236 4568 and ask for Brian Naughton...very helpful. E-mail is [email protected]. I think they used to have a different name????

They used to be Merseyside Insurance Services but as correctly stated are now Letton Percival.
I have just taken my insurance out with them and so far....no complaints.
