Default Shipping - how many cubic feet needed?

Wondered if anyone could help...

We are shipping stuff from the US to Melbourne: basically just personal things, some kitchen stuff, a bike and a chair, snowboards & gear plus a large-ish box of books. I have no idea about how much space this will take up - at the moment I am getting quotes for a 'liftvan' which is 7 feet x 7 feet x 4 feet which seems like a lot.

Anyone had similar experience of just shipping small items rather than a whole household?

All advice welcome!

Hi Helen

We are shipping just personal items, a pile of books and folders, big computer, guitar, linen, crockery set, that is it really and it was less than 70 cubic feet. About 12 tea chests I would have reckoned.
Hope this helps

Lift vans are designed ,to go 5 to the 20ft container, we do all our U.S military ,into and out of Australia in lift vans , they are by far the safest and securist way to move house hold goods. Albeit expensive, the corners are drilled and tagged to prevent illegal tampering..............its a pity the british industry wont use them...... MM
