Default Shipping costs per size container

What is the rough average price for a 20ft container? Am I correct in guessing £3500?

Is it worth selling some of the bigger things and for going for half a container?

What is everyone's experience in this.

Hello!

We are paying £3600 for a sole use 20ft container, we decided that for us it would be cheaper and easier to take as much of our furniture over and pay for the full container rather than having the hassle and cost of buying everything new.

Hope this helps

We got this through ...

Thank you for your enquiry. To give you a rough idea, the cost of a 20’ container shipment to Australia would be around £4500. This rate is for a ‘door to door’ service and includes fullpacking and export wrapping at residence, loading into the container, shipping and freight charges, destination charges including normal customs clearance and delivery to residence within 30 mile radius of port of entry.

Additional charges would be payable for agricultural and quarantine inspection charges (around A$375 on a 20’ shipment) and fumigation (if ordered).

Marine insurance is available through our Britannia Head Office at rate of £3%.

We would of course need to view the items to assess the volume and packing requirements, and could then provide a written quotation.

If your proposed destination is some distance from the port, let us know and we can work out the additional cost.

But some say Brittania may be more expensive than others.

Hi,
We have just instructed Whites & Co, to move our stuff in a 20' container from South Wales to Adelaide door to door including all packing and unpacking.
£3500 managed to knock them down a bit.
We did have one quote for £3300 from another company but felt more comfortable with Whites.
Insurance through A Letton Percival & Co 1.53%
You do not have to have the removal companies insurance.
Hope this helps

Thanks for all the replies.

We won't be packing it ourselves - we'd most probably pack one of our toddlers if we did. You know how they love climbing in boxes!!

We're only getting 2 quotes from Allied Pickfords and Kent. These are the 2 specified by my hubby's sponsoring company. They are paying for our relocation costs but only up to a certain amount.

Hello...we just took the opportunity to dump as much stuff as we could in England and only had a quarter of container. All our furniture was stuff that had been given to us when we first met and were poor and were grateful for any handouts....so iy was noy hard to just get rid of it all and buy new out here. Buying new here was not a hassle for us having never had anything new before. We bought furniture that we liked...wow that was so good! Also only having only a quarter of a container gave us the chance to dump all the c**p we had been bought as presents over the years and had to keep them.....and really hated. That fely good! I know I sound mean but sorry it had to go...no room in the container....what a shame...I'm gonna really miss that plastic candle holder auntie Beryl bought us for xmas!!!

We were told, but not sure if it is true...that having only a quarter of a container meant we had to wait for the rest of it to be filled and they could not put a time scale on this. As it was we got all our stuff within 11 weeks for us arriving....but having so little stuff that did not matter to us.

Just a thought, would you have any advice on self-packing....any hots tips, including the best way to pack breakables...ie plates, glass, clothes....we are not sure whether to bubble wrap and cardboard sheet wrap breakables and whether clothes need to be in a vac pack or whether they would be ok in black bags in cardboard boxes? etc

Hi,

Regarding Breakables, Newspaper and Bubble Wrap is Good, Clothes can be Vacpac if you wish, Or even Suitcases. Remember that the container is wind and Water Tight anyway. I would also recomend Tea Chests, and for any Individual Valuable Items you could even get Crated. Never Packany kind of Food Stuffs Whatsoever though !!

Try Packing Companies in your area.

Failing Tea Chests speak to a Local Removal company who could maybe provide you with Removal Boxes, they are normally Sturdy enough as well.
