Hi
A bit of stab in the dark this one, but can anyone hazard a guess at how big or fraction of a container would the average 4 bed house require?
Cheers

Any idea of average costs you will occur for a half container? (or a full one for that matter)

If you need at 20 for the house hold stuff, you could always stick a car in the other 20 of a 40.
Just an idea

My wife and I have decided upon a 20ft (1050ft3) to move from a four bed and not taking everything. Your looking at £3,500 to £3,900 plus insurance, and inspection. The trouble is you just decide upon a company through peoples experiences, then someone just so happens to post a bad experience, sod it, fingers crossed for when they arrive on the 18th, hopefully.

low down on containers (as far as I what I have picked up)
If you go with your own container then container is load at your house and unload at your place in Oz.
you can do half container, but as you are sharing the stuff is packd up but in a lorry/van to depot to be put into container, then divided and filled with another perons stuff. At the other end unloaded from container into van/lorry and delivered to you place.
As you can see sharing would involve at lot more labour and come in close to using full container if you are using up more than 50% of the shared container. To me the idea that goods are moved around 4 times gives more potential for damage to be done. Other downside it can take longer to arrive, given extra labour involved and any wait for goods to arrive to fill other part of container.
Now if you don't fill a container (approx 1100cft) then there is a reefer (approx 850cft). However one rep told me that it makes no difference on the price - I think he just did not want to come down on price, but he is not going to get my business. Another said due to amount of stuff imported from that part of the world and not exported a lot go back empty, thus they get them cheaper and can pass on saving - b*****ks to that as that quote was £600-900 more than the rest.
We have 3bed house, most stuff going (fridge, freezer, cookerbig items not going) but a lot can be flatpacked saving space and that is est by most to be just over 800cft.
Price wise there have been recent posts with various quotes people have been given.

When we were moving out of our 3 bed terrace, I thought there is no way we are going to fill a 20 footer as our shippers (Robinsons) said. The thing is, all the packing materials fill up so much airspace that, sure enough our container was about 7/8 full.
Good luck

Thanks everyone
Has anyone any experience of shipping from Irish Ports (North or South) and the costs involved?
Cheers
