Default shipping belongings for a tempoary move???

We are looking at going to Oz in 2013, myself, partner and 2 children. We have said that we will go over for a 2yr period and see how we get on. We are aware that it will take probably that long to settle in. At the end of the 2 yrs we will discuss coming back here or staying there. We will be renting out our house in the meantime and wondered what we should do with all our stuff. Toys, quilts, furnishings etc. Do we ship over there so we have something to set up with? There wouldnt be any major big items other than beds that can be dismantled. Not sure on shipping cost verses buying new when we get there. It just seems a bit much having to set up from the start when we get there.

Any ideas welcome

Consensus tends to be that it is more cost effective to ship than to buy new once you get here.

We shipped a half container (550 sq ft I think) in July and it cost around £2500. We were lucky and had a relocation package so we brought everything (rough guide it was a 1 bed flat but we brought everything including bikes etc) and now glad we did as it would have cost us loads more to replace.

And it's really nice to have some familiar stuff around!

Ship it. And bin/donate what you don't ship. We moved out here temporarily for 2 years nearly 5 years ago. Still have stuff dotted around in people's lofts/spare rooms etc.
