WARNING FROM PSS INTERNATIONAL REMOVALS
We have had two recent customers who's containers have arrived in Australia and AQIS the Australian Quarantine Inspection service have ordered that the outside container itself is washed before it is allowed to leave the port for clearance. The result of this has cost each customer approximately A$500 in addition to normal quarantine charges levied when the container is checked for clearance prior to delivery. although this happens at random and is rare our agents in Australia have advised us that it is likely to become more frequent and therefore people shipping goods into Australia should be aware of the possibility and the additional associated cost.
Unfortunately if you are one of the unlucky ones there is nothing you can do as AQIS is a government department and will not waiver. Please be prepared to pay the charge just in case.

assuming this is a genuine message from PSS........
1) Please start warning your customers, in plain English, what they may face.
2) Public messages from companies go down better when their English is correct - I don't nit-pick with individuals, as my English is far from perfect, but companies should do better.....(whose, not who's)

I think it may well be genuine. I saw someone on the AdelaideBrits site who was really angry at having to pay to have the outside of the container cleaned.
They had been told it was very rare but maybe is becoming more common.

We have PSS coming to our house tomorrow to do a quote will quiz them about it then.
Maybe it should become a deal breaker with the removal companies - if we use your removal company, should we incur any container cleaning!! costs would you pay the bill, lets see what they say then!!! What do you reckon?
Maybe the insurance that they provide should cover this.
Moving is far too stressful without having the extra worry of will we or wont we have to pay extra fees!!!

Hi
If this charge by AQIS is true, what happens with a shared container?
Confused!
Cheers

[We had PSS around on Wednesday to give us an estimate and I asked the question about outside container cleaning because I had seen the thread the day before on the forum. He said it was nonsense and that the shipping companies owned the containers so it would be up to them to foot the bill even if this did occur and it would not come down to the customer or them !! He also said the the containers arrive on the lorry and are not put onto the ground.
Whose telling the truth ?
