We used PSS 5 years ago. A few things were broken (the biggest being a rocking/ reclining chair, something heavy travelled 12,000 miles on top of it!)and replaced with no quibbles......

Hi all only think we will need a shared 20ft container (groupage).
can anyone give me a rough idea of an average cost.
Any info on doing it this way would be appreciated.
Regards Ian

I would advise that you check exactly what your insurance covers you for, if its from start to final destination, from port to port, some insurance literally only covers you up until your container 'passes the ships rails' or if it is being stored at the port it might not be covered. Check the sales terms, these are usually 3 letters such as FOB, CIP, CIF and have various coverage.
If someone wants to steal a container they will, although this more rife with consignments of tv, dvds etc etc from big companies. As was mentioned although unlikely, ships do get damaged or indeed sink. I don't want to put anyone off just thought the advise might come in handy

Essentially, I only want to insure against total-loss (ship sinking, container stolen, etc.) during transit.
Can you get this sort of insurance?

Hi there - We have had 5 quotes and are going to need a 40' container going Herts to Brisbane and then up to 100 miles the other end. Cheapest quote £5,800 and highest £7,200. Have whittled it down to PSS and Doree Bonner for their professionalism and service they offer. I think both would be open to some haggling as they said if you have better quotes, come back to us.
Have Excess International coming next week and then decision time.

We chose Doree Bonner based on their representative, the claim that they employ highly trained packers and also the top service they claimed to offer but mainly on recommendations of britishexpats - found the brochure sunnily enough last night where they show how they pack things with these padded bags, wooden boxes etc etc around paintings - totally different to the reality! They used thin bubble wrap stuff when they were being watched by me but basically threw everything in cardboard boxes willy nilly - my husband would have packed better and that's saying something!
No wooden crates for paintings - a square box flattened and painting shoved in which obviously caused a lot of damage and glass to be smashed. We have 2 A4 size pages full of damaged items and the insurance assessor said this is basically normal for them as he deals with a lot of damage this end.
Storage - they claim they keep your stuff in specially temperature controlled warehouses = bollocks basically according to the assessor, they are just normal warehouses that get humid, damp et etc. I paid a fortune to keep my stuff in one of these warehouses which explains why all our clothes, bedding etc stinks and a lot was damp. We also had insects that had eaten into our boxes and nibbled on things
Wish I'd gone with Crown now - didn't like the rep but the company is apprently better re packing. Our 'fully trained' packers - well one of them was polish and didn't speak english and labelled everything tools as well as put glassware on its own into boxes (they have to sign their initials on the box they pack and seal). Customs had opened loads of boxes as they must have been suspicious of so many 'tools'
Oh and there is also the matter of the 'missing' items

We are going York to Brisbane within 30km's for £4874 for a 40ft. They reduced their price by £78 when we negotiated. Our range was from £4874 to £7,900. Huge difference and they all came and did a survey. I guess your price is higher due to the distance at the other end. They said it only covered within 30km's and we intend to be within 5km's of the CBD.
Good luck with the haggling

We were told that although we have to have 40' container it is done on per cubic metre so that could be the difference too. All our quotes have actually been and surveyed so I don't know why the huge difference in cost

You can only really go on recommendations can't you? I actually liked Anglo Pacific but have heard some awful stories about them that not really inclined to go with them. It is a really hard choice. Looks like it could be PSS.

Hi
We are moving to Townsville from York and was given a quote by Anglo Pacific for £4774 for a 20ft container, they stated that it was the cost of transporting it from Brisbane to Townsville that was expensive, does this sound about right?
I have had PSS round also and awaiting their quote.
Just thought I would ask don't want to get ripped off.

Townsville is a long way from Brisbane so you would get charged for the road haulage I guess someone else may be able to advise as there are other ports between Brisbane and Townsville but maybe not for container ships.
PSS qouted a lot less than Anglo Pacific about £1000 and found the sales person was far more accommodating. AP were saying oh your bed is made from cane you cant take it. Well yes we can it may get looked at but I am not getting rid of a perfectly good bed which I may add was bought in Ikea in Melbourne before we shipped it back just to save on fumigation charges should we have it pulled out by AQIS.
PSS quoted us the same day by email so were very quick off the mark and we haggled and they did reduce their quote so worth haggling.

I was wondering the cost of small amount of items one person would take?.
Most of the clothes can go in two Large suitcases..( will have to check baggage allowance, probably need 40kgs.)
only taking a tools chest and socket set not bigger than 3.5 feet tall...approx 150kg....
mountain bike, 2-3 boxes 20''x20'' of personal items..
Thats it...
NO furnature and no electrical items, bed or anything like that..
Not a big move at all... what would one expect to pay for tarnsport?

Its a dog eat dog world out there, just play them against each other! I had Crown in yesterday, for sole use of a 20ft, 4700ish, then for a shared 4325!!! Now that is taking the p*** as far as I am concerned, will await DB for thier quote (in today) Shipit offered us 3700, I think I will get another 2-3 quotes, then make the decision then
anyone else feel free to chip in with recommends, then please do!

We used John Masons going, they were brill no probs and no breaks, coming home we used Kent, Fridge was dented, dressing tables broken, suite torn, couldnt claim much bk on insurance as the stuff sat wrapped for 4 mths until we could unwrap it when we moved into our house!
I think you are obviously going to do a better job yourself as its your belongings, we would deffo do our own packing nxt time, plenty of bubble wrap and boxes, use old sheets/blankets etc for padding, its not rocket science.
Time is the prob for most so the company doing it all is a big help I must say.
