Who has already gone and shipped all possesions or just some of your stuff? Who has sold the lot and rebought? What are your experiences what would you do differently. Also, if you ship what do you do while waiting for your stuff to arrive and how long does it take? Can you rent furnished places easily? We are thinking of just shipping personal possesions, kids stuff, not much furniture so prob would not need whole container? How much do you pay approx for half a load and what can you fit in? Sorry about the million questions just can't work it all out!!

After receiving two quotes and then asking for a discount, we have decided that it is probably cheaper to ship. We also have the added bonus of having some familiar things around us and will be able to take all of our sons things, which we are hoping will help us settle easier.
We have a three bedroom semi and are taking everything apart from wardrobes and white goods (we got a final price from Crowns of £2700). Not sure as yet though what we will do whilst we are waiting, I suppose it will be a case of beg, steal or borrow unless we can time it for the container to arrive not too long after we do.
Good luck.

I will be watching this thread with interest! We are undecided what to do. Originally we were going to rent our house out here furnished, but now we have decided to sell, but our son is in the process of buying his first home and has laid claim to loads of stuff from our house. We still have loads of personal bits and pieces, and I so want to take my lovely, comfy bed! Do you think it will be worth getting a small container or something? and if so how much are we looking at?

If I was doing it again...I would have brought the whole bloomin lot with me. Houses tend to have more room here....or a wee nook that needs a table or a chair....we have a covered patio and have our old futon sitting out on there and theres loads of other places that we could have put stuff
And anything u cant use when u get here then sell it this end....people tend to pay silly money for second hand stuff here

Was that price for a full or shared container? we just got a phone estimate quote for just over £2400 today for a shared, half container. I have noticed a few others on here seem to be getting quotes for full containers around £3000and even less
Hi there, we toyed with the idea of buying new but decided that we might as well get some quotes anyway.

Have a good clearout, throw away 'rubbish', e-bay decent stuff, garage sale (not car boot sale) the rest. I've e-bayed almost my entire wardrobe, made £700, garage sale raised another £400, well on the way to the £3K needed for shipping.
cheers

Hi all, my wife and I are shipping our stuff off on Friday with McGimpseys in Bangor, they quoted us £1250 for 240 cubic feet plus the standard liability of 3.75% for every £1000 worth of the value of contents. If there is less than 240 CU.FT when packed then it will cost less. Not bothering with a container as we are flogging white goods and furniture and most of the electrical stuff (should pay for the transport). Just taking things that are hard to replace, ie:dvd collection, dinnersets, cutlery, pots and pans , kitchenware, pictures, paintings and photo albums, some clothing and bed linen, towels, guitars, books and tools, Tyrone Crystal and ornaments, not forgetting the Dyson .
Basically just the stuff that would take ages to replace and at the same time make our house a home .
Quite looking forward to shopping for new electrical stuff when we get there as well as new furniture .
We leave at the end of June so our stuff should arrive within a week of us which is cool as we are staying with rellies for a week or so .Normally takes eight weeks plus another 10 days for customs to clear I believe.
Ps. In Perth a fully furnished pad will set you back about $750 a week, or anything from $200-$450 a week unfurnished, depending on where you decide to stay .
Hi Mr GOOD-GUY how much for cash mate???

It was for approx 800 cubic feet, although shared it was on of their larger shared containers.
