Ship or not that is the question!
To all those lucky enough to be there!!!:curse:
Container quotes range from £3300 - £5000!!!!
Me's thinking ebay the furniture, stuff the shipping and buy new whilst renting, store the new stuff until we move in to a purchased property when we are ready
What do you think, feasable or not?

Feasable - yes, but the cost of furnishing a house can cost you quite a bit . You'll probably have have most of the stuff already so unless it's crap it may work out more than the shipping (which is around $3200 for a 20ft sole use container):
These are just rough costs (that we looked at):
Lounge suite (Basic L Shape or 3 & 2 Seaters) around $2000 - $3500+,
Fridge about $1000 (depending on size),
Washing Machine - $600 upwards
1 x queensize bed frame - $599 (this is what we paid)
1 x queensize matress - $500 for a fairly good one (we paid $599)
or you can get Bedroom sets (1 x bed, 1 x cheap matress, 1 x bedside cabinets, 1 x drawer unit) - $1600
TV Unit - $400
Coffee Table - $400
Dining Room table & chairs - $900+
So far that's around £2500 (not inculding the bedroom suite)
Add on a TV, Microwave, Washing Machine and your probably looking at quite a bit more than the £3300 you've been quoted. Plus you'll probably be shipping some stuff anyway (sentimental items for example) and you'll have to pay for this to be shipped.
We shipped everything from a 3 bed house (beds, lounge suite, white goods - the lot !) and we've bought extra stuff since we've been here (a new bed, TV unit, coffee table) plus most houses have a Formal Lounge as well as a family room (so 2 lounge suites - so the one from the UK will come in handy). Plus when you get here you'll probably end up buying stuff like outdoor furniture and a BBQ (if you want the 'lifestyle').
Pays to shop around and there are always lots of sales on (just like the UK).
Food for thought....

Selling lots of stuff,
work out how much things are going to cost eg.
It's going to cost £300 to take sofas,we can sell them for £300 so you already have £600 towards a new suite ....and we didn't like them anyway!

If you like what you've got and it's in good condition then take it!!!
We're taking the lot! 20 years of kitchen gadgets, and investment purchases for our home mean that replacing it would cost far more than taking it with us... the only things that are not coming are the wardrobes, (walk-ins) and the washing machine/tumble drier/dishwasher... all are due for replacement, I'm considering buying here if the exchange rate doesn't improve!

I think we are going to see if we can get a shared container. We live in a 2 bed flat and a lot of our stuff is rubbish that we wouldn't want to bring. We also have quite a bit of stuff that we think it would be worth bringing like a £900 Miele washing machine. We need to do a bit of research and see what is the best route for us.
