People get hung up on the big things; sofa's, dinning sets, etc. But its the little things that really cost such as kitchen, garage stuff etc.
Think about it, you've just arrived in a strange place and have no idea which shops to use for the best quality/value. I will give you an example, every bloke in the UK has a Rose's tin full of screws, nuts, bolts, washers etc. collected over many years. I sold mine for £3.50 I must have since spent a small fortune in Bunning buying poncey packs of screws at $6 a shot
You also need to bear in mind that much of what is sold here is simply crap. I'm talking Poundland/Wilkenson standard for most shops here.
I've never had to replace so many things in such a short space of time, our dinning suite lasted less than 3 years

We shipped 4 little boxes with the personal things photos clothes ehm my shoes !! and our 4 suitcases that was it. It was fun buying new things a whole new start but had a little o our home things like our fav mugs for cuppas and our fav wine glass for our tipples lol I am not bothered I sold and gave it away in the uk

that sounds expensive, but some of it is down to currency fluctuations, no? Last time I lived there (10-12 years ago) exchange rate was typically 2.5 AUD to the GBP and it did go as high as 3 AUD but local prices perhaps do not fluctuate quite the same way....
