Default Severe Weather Warning for North NSW

A low currently located east of Taree is expected to move slowly southwards and deepen to be off the Newcastle coast by early Saturday. Heavy rain is expected to cause flash flooding in the Hunter and parts of the Metropolitan and Central Tablelands during Friday.

Damaging surf conditions, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, are likely to produce significant beach erosion between Newcastle and Port Hacking on Friday afternoon, and between Port Hacking and Moruya Friday night. Water levels above the highest astronomical tide of the year are possible. Conditions are expected to extend further northwards again on Saturday.

18.9 metre waves reported off Newcastle. Nowhere near that here, but the ocean sure looks angry!

Damnit. We are down in Sydney for the long weekend. Not looking favourable is it? Hubby and youngest are doing the twilight bridge climb on Sunday

I did that a couple months back, great fun. Hope they enjoy it, there is wet weather gear available but I hope it stays fine anyway ... I would imagine it will be pretty nippy too ...

Make sure they know where the Bridge Climb starts (under the bridge, not 'on' it, next to the pylons), we didn't and ended-up rushing for our start time.

Just seen the news here in NZ about how bad it is there in Oz - 1 large coal ship aground just outside Newcastle, with an additional 2 likely to go aground shortly if the weather continues.

Looks pretty ugly! Hope you're all wrapped up warm over there.

15 degrees C here in ChCh today! Blizzards is South Otago though - looks like the ski season's arrived!

Not as bad this far south - but still very ferocious looking conditions and very strong wind gusts. Took these on Black Head at Gerroa at the northern end of Seven Mile Beach.

Well it's closed at the moment so it's unlikely they're going to able to do it.

Two of my coworkers had a pine tree flatten their cars in our works car park and i just saw on the news part of the Pacific highway has collapsed and a car with people on board has been plunged into the water and washed away. Dreadful day all round

Yup, saw that on the news too. Strangely enough, we're not looking forward to the trip as much as we were

Dropped by my surf club today and had a listen in on 88 and 90 on the VHF to see if 'owt was going on. Fortunately nobody had been nutty enough to go out in it.

well how lucky are we the 60ft gum tree in the garden has blown down and demolished the wrought iron fences around the spa but missed the shed and summer house and the decking around the house and fallen diagonally across the lawn and stopped about 1 metre from next doors fence I am now on my second bottle of wine
