Default Setting up home in Hornsby

Trying to get as much last minute cramming as I can before we leave on Monday.

Has anyone set up home recently in the Hornsby area?

Trying to get an idea of stores for furniture, electrical etc.. in the area for kitting out a rental.

Wont have a car so preferably places that deliver.

Cheers,
WW

Hi,

We recently moved to a Sydney suburb and got most of our furniture for our rental from fantastic furniture. Depends on what you are looking for, the furniture is flat pack self assembly but decent quality and not too expensive. It was good for us as we didn't want to spend a fortune and had to buy everything from scratch. They do packages so that your furniture matches and will deliver. You can see the kind of stuff they do on their website. We got a living package which consisted of a large corner sofa, coffee table, dining table and 6 chairs, lamp table, buffet table and entertainment unit. We also got the bedroom package which consisted of a bed, 2 bedside tables and a chest of drawers. All our furniture looks decent quality and modern and it all matches. There are other places if you have more money, again it all depends what you are after. We had a look around a place called Harvey Normans not long ago and some of the stuff there was really nice and they had more choice than fantastic furniture and I think they deliver.

Hope that helps, not been here long ourselves (3 months)!

I was that busy going on about furniture! You can also get electrical goods from Harvey Norman as well as loads of other nice stuff. Target and K-mart sell a lot of homewares, bedding, towels, kitchen utensils etc etc and most other things!

Have a search as there's tons of good info on here.

Good Guys for your electrical - get it all there and barter hard. They like cash but they'll do deals for CCs too.

Freedom for furniture - seems to be popular although we brought all ours with us so I haven't bought any big ticket items.

If all else fails, there's Ikea. You can get there on the train and pay them to deliver.

Seasider is right - Good Guys are best for electrical. There is no store in Hornsby though, your nearest is Chatswood. Everyone haggles here - it takes a while to get used to it but DO IT, you will save a fortune! You need to buy everything in one place and then get them to "do a deal". There is Bing Lee in Hornsby Westfield who aren't bad, but they're not as good as the Good Guys! Your other option is Harvey Norman.

Not sure where to point you for furniture if you haven't got transport. We got our best stuff around Paramatta Road (and our second hand car). The guys around there will deliver within hours if you want. If you want to PM me when you arrive and get over your jetlag I can take you to the Supacentre in Belrose where there are a few decent furniture shops including Freedom, and a Harvey Norman. We bought all our kitchen stuff from Harvey Norman, TVs from the Good Guys. Ikea is in Homebush - again without transport it will be difficult.

We're 10 minutes from Hornsby - happy to help with local knowledge. Have you got any further with schools?

Been looking at the local primary schools, both seem good and will have to arrange a visit once we get a rental sorted.

Thanks for the offer of a trip to the Supacentre, will be in touch!

Think we'll be spending a fair chunk on delivery fees!
