Separate Forums?
#1
We've recently had a few requests for separate forums for Australia and New Zealand, instead of the current one where the countries are combined. So in true British fashion we've decided to create a poll to see how the land lies

Hi Sue,
Don't want to complicate things but another poster had an idea involving identifying the threads by putting Nz or Oz at the beginning of the question. Might be worth considering this option too.
Sorry to confuse things more

And who's going to enforce this prefixing of "Oz" or "NZ"? Don't tell me you're suggesting us moderators do it?

The idea of placin, 'Nz or Oz' is a good idea but this just
would not happen. You can pin or place a topic asking
people to do this but, as i've generaly found' this
wouldn't be read.
I think having a seperate NZ forum would be a great
idea, topics and posts would become a lot easier to
find. As you admin and Mods know, browsing through
all the topics is hard work.
Great Forum all the same

As the next poster confirmed, it is a good idea.
When I read the post suggesting this some weeks ago I thought it was a good idea as well.
All I put forward was a suggestion. It was not meant to be a working model, just an idea for discussion.
who is to say what would happen if you posted some guidlines on this. It may get adopted, or it may not, but it is surely worthy of consideration.

Keep the way it is, please.. It's usually obvious whether a post is about NZ or OZ, as most nz posts already use it in the title.
We'll lose the vibrancy if the forums are split. Like someone said before you could sometimes wait hours or even days for a new NZ topic. We also get a lot of general posts regarding moving, flights, agents etc which are useful to all of us.
This is surely one of the best forums on the web......so please, don't mess with it!

I Agree - keep it the way it is now. People who have only recently joined will not remember that awhile back the 2 forums were separated (after a poll like this). The NZ forum was a disaster - hardly anyone posted & after a few weeks it was abandoned and the 2 forums merged into 1 again.
Besides, a lot of information is common to both countries - Oz & NZ are close culturally & economically. Topics such as currency fluctuations/migration patterns/house price trends/economy etc etc are relevant to both countries & information/opinions/discussion about these topics would be lost if the two forums were separated.
Status quo, please
Russ.

PLEASE PLEASE DON'T SEPARATE THE FORUM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been a poster here for quite some time. Both NZ bound and now I am here. During this time have been moments when there are quite a few NZ posters like now but also times when there has been about 4. People come and go all the time although it seems as if there is enough NZ posters to warrant an individual forum it probably won't stay that way.
Also I have made a lot of friends on this forum who are OZ bound and I like to keep up to date with their progress and be involved in off topic threads just for fun. It has to be said that an NZ forum would have lots of useful info but would be deathly quiet and not have the underlying fun vibe this forum has at the moment.
If people where truthful about there reasons for wanting this split I think they would have to admit that its because most of the 'trolls' and thread spoilers are aiming at the OZ posts and they think that they would leave an NZ forum alone. Well don't you believe it, these people get a real kick out of what they do and would only be encouraged by how much louder their voice would seem in a room with less people in it.
Use your ingrore option to remove the repeated offenders.
I think the idea of an NZ or OZ prefix is good, maybe an OZ or NZ message icon is possible from the administrators?
Please keep the forum the way it is though as a lot of info is useful to both countries like flights, removals, and general advice on coping with emigrating.

Please don't seperate quite often their is athread relating to oz and I think thats an idea I need to find out about that too but for Nz. The prefix idea sounds good.

Separate forums. NZ and Oz share a small bit of ocean. Apart from that they are chalk and cheese.

We had separate forums a while back and there was a vote to combine them as there were so few NZ posters.
I think alot of the issues are the same wherevre you are going to, you are still upsticks and moving to the other side of the world...
Keep them together!

Please don't change the forum!! It honestly gets easier to navigate the longer you have been around and now i tend to just have a look at the threads which have been started by people i know are interested in NZ. Also, as has already been said some of the discussions are plainly relevant to both, from the titles. the emotional and family side affects both and some things like removal companies etc are relevant info for both as well!!
The only thing that is bothering me about the poll is that there are clearly more people voting than have any interest in NZ. Nothing at all to stop them of course but i think by starting this poll we may find ourselves 'voted off' by people Australia bound rather the NZ bound people making a decision for them!! hope you understand where I'm coming from - not easy i know!!!
Really hope it doesn't happen!
