Default Secondhand car prices

Having a financial crisis!
Boiler has died just as house about to be let.
Going to have to use car fund for new boiler.
Can anyone give me any idea of what I might get, small car, nothing fancy, for about $3500-$4000?
If you say a go cart with pram wheels I'll be very upset!!
