Re: Searching of laptops at perth airport
I heard a recent news report saying a man had been arrested at perth airport for apparently having child porn on his laptop.
Obviously this type of material is sickening but it occured to me this might mean customs are searching peoples computers.
Did anyone else hear about this?
This goes way beyond looking for bombs or weapons and means they actually booted up the computer and extensively searched the files.
Has anyone had it happen to them, I also wonder where they would draw the line, illegal music, programs..

Where did I hear it mentioned that......
Only the guilty need fear the law and justice.
BUT, according to Border Security which is oft repeated, some naughty stuff is considered OK, but anything "offencive" will be confiscated.
So adults doing rumpy pumpy together- may be comsidered OK but anything with kids and Lassie.......( sharp intake of breath....) and yer in deep du doo.
I brought in my laptop last October and nobody at Sydney looked on it or asked what was on it. I also shipped in about 400 plus of used and blank CDs and DVD and customs did not open the boxes.
I think customs work on "profiles" and place of departure.
Having said that in 1997 me and OH were surrounded by customs at Manchester airport after coming back..for the third time in 18 months.
( I am a painter and we went to the art galleries!)
A new leather coat I had bought OH and was neatly folded up in her case... when scanned - must have looked like a big block of something worthy of a few years of free bed and board... they all melted away when we opened the case and nobody even looked at the other cases!

Personally Renth, I think you missed an opportunity for another cheap laugh by making the mounter have a speech-bubble saying "Who's the Daddy?" drawn onto it using Paintshop (or similar)?

I find myself strangely aroused but slightly disappointed that they're not sheep (sheep-dog is close enough though).
