Hi

Can anyone recommend some schools in Perth my daughter is 14. Also can you please tell me did you arrange the school before you went? or did you wait until you where there and could have a look around?, I am not sure what the correct way of going about this

Hi John we posted the same thread as you the best thing to do is put in a search schools in W.A these questions have been asked many times before.
It also helps to know where abouts you are heading in Perth! its helps to narrow it down a little Bussleton has some good schools and a TAFE college i hear. This is our main worry getting it right for the kids once this is done you can settle much easyer hope this has helped.
Alan.

Perth is a city of well over a million people and as such has loads of schools. What do you do for job, do you need to be near train line, want to be close to beach etc etc. Narrow it down a bit first and as Asho says use the search function as this question is asked almost twice daily.

you can get them into a school when you get here. I'd wait and check out the schools when you arrive as you may change your mind when you see them

There are some very good public schools in Perth and some just as good private ones.

My girls will be going to public school but i'm one of the lucky ones, i have 2 very good public schools on my door step, one with an advanced academic programme (which my eldest is going into) and the other specialises in Science (school that is not my youngest)

It really does depend on which suburb you choose to settle in, Perth is a pretty big place (not the CBD but the whole suburb areas)
Have a good look around and have a gander at this web site

http://www.det.wa.edu.au/education/

It should help you out a bit regarding info

I would find a good school, then aim to settle in the catchment area. Like the UK, there are some good schools and bad schools out there!! My youngest went to Kinross College, which apparently has a very good reputation.
All the best!

St Stephens is supposed to be good, there's one in Duncraig and one in Carramar. I think it's quite hard to get in though.

Our girls are at Duncraig, which has a really good reputation. This public school is on a par with some of the private ones here.

Most suburbs have good private and government schools.

If your decision depends on the school ...

I can quote the top private schools .. no problem. Acadamic...

I can also quote excellent Government schools! Academic ...

How the papers rate the school .. may not be what is best for your child.

My children go to an excellent Government school .. and I would not send them to any other ... but if my youngest wished to to woodwork or egine technology .. then I would send them to another school!

My choice has depended on their choices.

Both my kids love animals and chose to get a shot at Farm studies, the school has two farms!

but IMHO the best school for Carpentry and Motor - Mechanics, is a mile or two up the road.

Your choice may depend on what is available, and what your child seems comfortable with.

For example, some schools excite kids with rock and Jazz, others learn music in orchestras ... depends on the school.

I think that all schools offer choices.

Match the school to your childrens choices .. and you will get as close as you can as a parent.

Best wishes ,

Johnnie
