We are hoping to go to Brisbane March next year and I was wondering about schools (initially pre-schools and primary) and was wondering if anybody can recommend any good schools (any areas).

State schools - Ascot, Bulimba, Sherwood & Graceville.

Ohh hold on - you wanted to be able to afford to live there as well?

Padua primary and Secondary (boys only)

Mt Alvernia (girls only)

St Anthony's (for younger kids)

All in the same area (Kedron) run by Fransican monks and sisters. Good school but then again I am biased

Ashgrove State School (primary only) - is used quite frequently by parents who want their kids to go on to posh secondary schools. Most of my friends vanished to BGGS, BBGS, Churchie, Marist, Mount Maria etc.. I went to a state secondary school as well.

Schooling is good in Oz - it's just DIFFERENT to what the UK system is. But like anywhere, there are a few dodgy schools. It takes 4 years in Oz to be a teacher - and that's just the B. Ed degree, honours is another year, so teachers are not poorly trained.

I too am interested in Schools on the gold coast! I would prefer catholic schools but initially i will need to my 7 and 9 yo's in a school with afterschool care. From what i have found out there arent many schools with outof school care so its going to be hard! I think we forget about how easy we have it here with school clubs and out of school care in the UK... yes it has to be paid for but at least its available! What do working aussie mums do?

When i was a child in Oz i was a latch key kid but I'm not sure i'd trust my two on their own no matter how good they are! LOL...

Until my parents and grandparents get out there i will have no family or friends to rely on but I will need to work!

Wattle, I think quite a few schools have after school care facilites, ours certainly does. But if you chose one that doesnt then there are generally daycare/childcare centres that do out of school hours care as well. Heaps of them around, check out the yellowpages in the area you are looking at.

The biggest question is whether to go private or state. Looks like you have decided that one .

Hi there MrsDagboy! Oh i wish i had decided LOL.

I was lucky to have a catholic education which was excellent! I then went on to the Girls Catholic high school and then got a scholarship to an Private School for my HSC years!

BUT I am now a single parent and as you can imagine i dont have the income that my parents had - but I want to give my kids the best that i can afford!

Education is the main reason for me returning back to Australia!

I don't even know where I'm going to go when i step out of Brissie Airport yet LOL... My parents are wanting to move to Nerang Area - but I have no idea what its like.... Argggh so much to sort out in a blind staggering way! LOL
