Default schools

Hello , this is my firts post on the forum, and would like to know any information on schooling. We are looking at Musswelbrook and Scone. The catholic school would be my first choice, but what would the average cost per annum. If we we decide on state school, how does it work for the kids religious eductaiona and their first sacraments? ANY information would be grateful, not just schooling but general info about these towns. Many thanks

Hi mama bear, I did reply to your previous thread.
Muswellbrook and scone, from my experience are little towns. Scone is a bit 'run' down compared to muswellbrook. But with the mining boom happening at the moment, they are both growing.
With regards to school, we are looking at singleton. The Christian school will cost aprox. $2800 per year. Where as he public schools will cost aprox $75 a year.
So a huge difference in cost, but not sure about the quality difference.
If you look at the following websites hey might shed some light:
Or www.schools.nsw.edu.au

If you come up with something please let me know as we are looking at moving to singleton, maitland area...
Good luck

It depends what visa you have as to whether you pay fees for a govt. school.
If you choose to go private you will have more choice.

I don't know the area you are going to, but if you give more details then I'm sure someone will be along to help.

Hi Caroline,

With regards to your point on depending which Visa as to whether you pay for govt school or not, could you tell me where to fina out more about this?
As so far from the immigration site, I could only find info on rights to work, and health etc, but nothing regarding education.

Thanks!

Hi, yes that would be helpful.
We should be going on PR. (last remaining relative, 115).
And the schooling is very different. So also would like to find out what the procedure is when it comes to children that have just started here at age 4/5, and the children only starting there are 5/6.

If you are on PR then you do not have to pay fees at state schools. A temporary visa like a 457 will mean you incur charges, of around $5k at a state school. Add extras to this and it gets pricey- things like books, excursions, "extras", music tuition etc....depending on the age and stage of your child. There are some govt. subsidies to help, but you have to be claiming a low income support like family tax A or B. As I don't claim either I can't help there.

Have a look on the government education websites for the state you are migrating to, as each state is slightly different.

Children age 4/5 will be in Kindy or a pre-school depending on the cut off date.
