Up in arms about what? The uniform my daughter had to wear at the Secondary School in the UK was expensive and only available at one outlet and no second hand shop. The prices for other Secondary Schools in the area weren't the same, one was a hell of a lot more expensive. The Primary Schools were the same as here as well, a lot of it could be bought from M&S etc to save money. There's no difference in my experience.

I'll set my alarm clock for next week.

Does Brisbane have fluoridated water yet? I've lost track ... ours comes straight from sky to tank via dead possum.

In total about $105 plus the shoes on top of that.
Just the blazer for mine is almost $200
In out first year I think the school fees were $3,000 + almost $1,000 uniform, but everything lasts pretty well. This is her 3rd year wearing the blazer, and it still looks new.

Absolutely right. When mine started in State school here, we spent about $50 on the uniform.

But not your normal Gov't High school, that has to take all local children, though is it... ?
Unique in its status .. The Mac.Robertson Girls' High School seeks to remain at the forefront of education for girls in Australia.

But then that's what you get with selective entry schools whether Private or State.

Right, the kids get in because they passed the entrance tests and so it's fine to make them pay through their noses. Doesn't matter that many can't afford the extortionate costs of uniforms

fair enough, maybe I have this incorrect perception that uniforms in Australia are more expensive that in the UK....

But then I read IndieG's posts !

Ours is about the same and they have plans to change the uniform.

Having said that, we paid about the same in POUNDS for school uniform in the UK.

Oh and the uniform was only available from a shop 50 miles away in Bristol - that was handy.

My family had the same problem when I went to grammar school (government selective schooling) in the UK, I had to have the expensive uniforms and my brother at comprehensive saved the family purse.

So glad my eldest is enrolled in a state high school which has NO uniform policy.......Cost me last month approx $30 for a pair of Jeggins ( denim leggins) & laced pumps (like the old style plimsoles from when i was at school back in the 80's). probably be a small cost towards mid winter for a couple of jumpers/ hoodies.

youngest is in uniform which is not too bad but i think i will look around for kmart or Target Cullotes as they are the standard style and have no school emblems.

Thanks to all for their contibutions there seems to be such a wide range of costs and not all dependent on area or school.Looks like its a bit of pot luck as to whether the uniform is expensive or not....

Our lad is at Grammar school but we were amazed at the price list of the new school when we saw the following published list making the current cost feel punitive!

POLO SHIRT $26.50
BOYS CHECK SHIRT $50.50
TROUSERS $54.00
FLEECE QUARTER ZIP JACKET $38.50
PULLOVER - WOOLLEN $86.00
PHYS ED T SHIRT $19.00
MICROFIBRE SPORTS SHORTS $23.50
TRACKSUITS PANTS $51.00
TRACKSUITS TOP $71.50
BAGS $50.00

Seeing some of the prices posted i guess a middle of the road sum.....I am kind of hoping the Tracksuit is Sergio Tachinni for $122.50 and the Pullover is Cashmere for $86!

I've been looking at uniform prices too. We have been in a rental here in UK since February and my boys started the local school on March 1st and have now left ready for our departure to Oz, so have only worn their uniform for 3 months. It cost a fortune and was only available from the school shop. Blazers were £55/£45 for 2 different sizes, the outdoor rugby/games kit was £41.00 each and the indoor kit was £30.00 each, DT Aprons £6.00 each and ties £4.50 each. I have been trying to sell it to get some money back but no luck so far and the school don't sell on commission for you, you can donate it to them though!!!! Never mind, have to get ready to do it all over again in Oz.

Only two more years of uniforms for one teen remaining.

It was the same when I was a kid, my parents almost went bankrupt each year buying new uniforms for all us kids.
