When we get to Oz I wouldn't want him to spend a year just doing nursey rhymes etc etc. . I've heard some children have managed to be put up a year in Oz. The down side of this is that socially they will be with children 1 - 2 years older.

Anyone got any advice/experiences of how children born in June - August cope with school in Oz ... particuarly in the age range 4 - 6 ?
if you were coming to WA your child would be in full time school in 2008. My daughter is the same age and is part time kindy this year but full time next.

Thats a start , being in full time school.

But that would be reception year, not year 1 as he would be in the UK ?

What sort of things do they do in the reception year ? Is it the same as in the UK ie. the learning to read and write using phonics and learning basic maths ? Or is just mainly playing ?

My son is 5 in November. He starts reception here in Sept and will start school in melbourne in January. For him there is not much difference.
My daughter though is 7 in May. Despite being one of the younger children in
year 2 here she is very bright and reads very well. I'm still not concerned about her going back a year in school in Oz as I'd like her to have some fun and get to know the other children.
It all works out in the end unless you go back to the U.K then there may be problems.
